Australian alt-rock band New Empire are slowly yet steadily breaking out internationally. Their résumé already includes a stint on Warped Tour and opening for bands such as Simple Plan and Neon Trees. idobi senior writer Catherine Yi caught up with guitarist Kyle Lane to discuss the new record, signing with a label, and finding success overseas.
Anberlin are streaming a new single, “Stranger Ways,” taken from their upcoming album, ‘Lowborn’.
Anberlin have announced that after 2014, the band will be parting ways. They will release a final album through Tooth & Nail Records and tour the world. Today marks 17 years to the day that rock juggernaut MxPx performed its first show in the backyard of Mike Herrera’s former Bremerton, Wash. home. In that very suburban spot, the band created a recording studio out of the free-standing garage. Epic pop-rock trailblazers Anberlin may have titled their new CD New Surrender, but the Florida rockers have established a take-no-prisoners trajectory when it comes to storming the gates of Billboard’s Top 200, snagging one of the more solid new entry positions this week with their major label debut coming in at #13. Underoath drummer Aaron Gillespie will release the debut album from his side band, the Almost, April 3 via a joint venture with Tooth & Nail and Virgin Records. “Southern Weather” will be supported by a spring tour as well as a long stint on the Vans Warped Tour this summer. “I wrote all the songs last year when Underoath was in the studio doing ‘Define the Great Line,’” Gillespie tells Billboard.com. “I’d do all the drums, then have a three-week to a month lull between doing drums and singing. Punk Rock trio MXPX is releasing, TEN YEARS AND RUNNING May 21, 2002 on Tooth & Nail Records.
