Saturday, August 31, The Pixies and The Cure will share the stage again for the first time in 30 years at the Daydream Festival in Pasadena, CA. The Cure are throwing the festival to commemorate their 40 year musical anniversary. The festival will take place at the Rose Bowl with 10 bands, namely Deftones, Mogwai, The Joy Formidable, Throwing Muses, Chelsea Wolfe, The Twilight Sad, Emma Ruth Rundle, and Kælan Mikla. Radiohead has confirmed 16 European summer concert dates for 2008, including an appearance at Denmark’s giant Roskilde Festival. The British rock band’s first confirmed concert will take place June 7 at the Malahide in Dublin. The tour, announced Wednesday on Radiohead’s official Web site, will roll on to France, Spain, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and Germany. The band will be promoting its new release, “In Rainbows,” which fans can download from the Web for a price of their own choosing. It will come out on CD early next year. A Dutch Internet company on Thursday said it had developed software that could be used to compensate musicians whose songs are swapped online, a move it said could cut out the embattled music industry. PGR BV, a privately held company has its own new file-sharing service known as The Honest Thief and is helping companies start up services like the popular Kazaa and Morpheus services in the Netherlands, which has emerged as something of a haven for such operations. “We are the first, but certainly not the last, to eliminate the record companies from the equation,” said Pieter Plass, founder… Read more »
