It’s not all fun and games being in a ska band… Okay, maybe there is a lot of fun involved, but there’s also long nights of touring, a noise no headphones could cancel, and fear of being eaten alive in a tent—before we get to that, though, let’s introduce the world’s most skankin’ ska band, Reel Big Fish.
Four Year Strong have released another single titled “I’m A Big, Bright Shining Star” from their forthcoming self-titled record, due out June 2nd with Pure Noise Records.
PVRIS have unleashed themselves upon the world in the biggest way they could have with White Noise, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they’re one of the most exciting new acts out there.
If you remember Oceana, then mentally cross that band name out and scribble in Polyenso instead. Except it’s not quite so simple because with a new name and a recent self-released album, it’s crystal clear that this is not the “post-hardcore†band listeners may have thought they knew before their break.
Spirits were high as The Noise Tour, featuring There For Tomorrow, We Are The In Crowd, and Mayday Parade, kicked off its first show at The Nutty Irishman in Farmingdale, NY.
Used record bins are flooded with albums from swaggering British lads whose bands have conquered England and have their eyes set on cracking the States. Not too many of them can claim to have their music used in two of the most popular TV shows in the country before most Americans have ever heard of them, though. The vaguely scary, beat-crazy sound you might have heard on recent episodes of “Desperate Housewives” and “CSI: Miami” comes courtesy of Kasabian, currently infecting American ears with the intense marriage of druggy beats and massive guitar riffs from their self-titled debut. “We’re going… Read more »
Los Angeles – Wednesday’s VH1 Big in ’04 awards show was a terrifying example of life imitating art, one that was dreadfully similar to “Saturday Night Live”‘s “Train Wreck Awards” skit from a few weeks ago. There was Anna Nicole Smith, just slightly more coherent than she was at the American Music Awards, threatening to flash the Shrine Auditorium audience after accepting the Big Makeover of ’04 award. There was ultimate odd couple, Flavor Flav and Brigitte Nielsen, fondling each other from the “beige carpet” to the stage, which they entered on a horse-drawn carriage. (They also tried to fondle… Read more »
Record labels have historically invested significant financial resources toward new acts’ touring efforts, whether it be $20,000 for a regional van trek or $200,000 for a national bus outing. But in today’s world of shrinking revenue and tight budgets, tour support funds – though almost always recoupable against album sales – are becoming harder to come by. “There’s not as much money at any level, whether it’s signing bonuses, (recording) albums, tour support or anything else,” says Tim DuBois, senior partner of Nashville-based record label Universal South, home of such ascts as Pat Green and Joe Nichols. “But even in… Read more »
Outkast, Pharrell Williams and Kid Rock are among the initial performers announced for the VH1 Big in ’03 awards. After dropping his debut solo single under the moniker robbietheused, The Used frontman Bert McCracken has announced the pending arrival of his self-titled full-length album. “Any feeling is valid—and to be able to put it to song is incredible,” robbietheused shares. “And there’s so much room in this world for positivity. I want this music to show that there’s room for love. There’s room for growth. There’s room for redemption. There’s so many good people—and so many good things happening.” The 12-track collection, which features previously released singles “Just A Little Bit,” “The Feels,” and “Terrible,” is scheduled to drop… Read more »
