The Black Crowes will release their first proper live album on August 27th. The tracks were taken from the band’s two-night tour finale at Boston’s Orpheum, October 30th and 31st of last year. After the tour, the Crowes went on indefinite hiatus after drummer Steve Gorman quit. “The shows were going so well, I just thought it would be great to record a live album,” says guitarist Rich Robinson. “We were all playing well together with great set lists spanning all of our albums. New music from the Dave Matthews Band and Counting Crows plus a bizarre collaboration between David Bowie and Adam Sandler highlight the RCA soundtrack to Sandler’s forthcoming film, “Mr. Deeds,” due June 11. Women rule the roost on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, as females lord over the top three spots. First up is Ashanti, whose self-titled debut remains the #1 album in the country for the third straight week. She moved over 190,000 albums last week, according to SoundScan figures released Wednesday (April 24). Behind her is Sheryl Crow, whose C’mon, C’mon debuts at #2 with almost 185,000 copies sold. Sheryl Crow and Train are among the first acts confirmed for the inaugural Jeep World Outside Festival 2002. The five-week, 23-city trek gets in gear July 10 in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to the tour’s publicist. Following a path that hits the West Coast later that month, the trek returns to the East Coast to wrap up in Philadelphia on August 18. The trek marks Crow’s first set of dates to promote her fourth and latest album, C’mon, C’mon, which was released Tuesday. The seventh edition of Epitaph Records’ “Punk-O-Rama” compilation series will be released June 25 and feature 19 tracks from the likes of Rancid, Bad Religion, NOFX, Pennywise, the Hives, and Bouncing Souls. Following the series’ modus operandi, “Punk-O-Rama Vol. 7” will be specially priced at $5.98. The track listing for Sheryl Crow’s follow-up to 1998’s The Globe Sessions has been firmed up, and the album is now slated for March. Crow spent time in New York City last year working on the record, popping up for star-studded surprise gigs that included appearances by the likes of Keith Richards, Stevie Nicks, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kid Rock. The Black Crowes have flown the coop. The Atlanta-based rock band announced it has gone on “hiatus,” with lead singer Chris Robinson deciding to break out on his own and drummer Steve Gorman leaving the band. In a brief statement released Tuesday, the band said: “For the time being, Chris Robinson is pursuing a solo career. Steve Gorman has left the band for personal reasons.” The message, also posted on the band’s Web site, told fans to stay tuned for news about Rich Robinson, who is Chris Robinson’s brother. Although the Ozzy Osbourne/ Rob Zombie Merry Mayhem tour has encountered its share of setbacks-including the postponement of 10 shows after Osbourne broke his leg in a bathroom mishap and the recent cancellation of the last two shows due to routing problems-Osbourne continues to be pleased with the proceedings. Eddie Vedder, Sarah McLachlan, the Black Crowes and 14 other artists will deliver their takes on Beatles classics for the soundtrack to the Sean Penn drama “I Am Sam.” The album, due January 8, also features Ben Folds, the Wallflowers, Paul Westerberg, Nick Cave and Ben Harper, among others, according to a V2 Records spokesperson.
