Soccer Mommy Covers Taylor Swift’s “I’m Only Me When I’m With You” With Indie Ease

Soccer Mommy, aka Nashville-based Sophie Allison, is always down to inject her melancholy indie-rock sensibilities into covers of her favorite tracks from other artists. Today, the artist shared her cover of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour surprise songI’m Only Me When I’m With You” and announced Soccer Mommy’s forthcoming cover song EP Karaoke Night. The five-track release arrives on listening platforms on Sept. 22 via Loma Vista and is available for pre-order

Uniquely, Swift’s self-titled record from 2006 is a major source of inspiration for Soccer Mommy. “I really wanted to cover this song because it’s one of my favorites from Taylor’s first album,” Allison says. “I listened to that record so much when I was a kid, and I think it had a lot of influence on me then.”

Departing from Swift’s upbeat acoustic guitar and fiddle-laden “I’m Only Me When I’m With You,” Soccer Mommy incorporated her signature nostalgia-inducing guitar lines and synths into the beloved track. Check out the cover below featuring art from Justus Proffit and animation from John Howe.

The Sometimes, Forever musician also previously released a cover of Sheryl Crow’s “Soak Up The Sun,” which will also appear on the upcoming Karaoke Nights EP. This grunge-tinged indie reimagination of the track might just upstage the original version.
