Following the massive success of their April single, “Medicate Me,” featuring the talent of Dayseeker vocalist Rory Rodriguez, Rain City Drive has unveiled their vulnerable new track, “Neverbloom.”

“I wrote ‘Neverbloom’ about my dad who passed when I was 24,” vocalist Matt McAndrew candidly shares in a press release. “I find myself thinking how I wish he could see the things I’ve accomplished and the man that I’ve become. It’s about learning to live with the reality that he only got to see the beginning of my journey, the seeds I planted, but won’t see my flowers bloom.”

Opening through a gentle soundscape capturing the essence of longing and loss while trying to answer unresolved questions, McAndrew’s soft, whispery vocals tenderly introduce the track, “I’m done learning these lessons/Why is life so cruel?/People calling me reckless/What would they say about you?” He continues, “Left all of these questions/When you left too soon/There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do/I’m running too wild without you.” The track crescendos, piercing through the veil of delicacy as the instrumentation and McAndrew’s voice intensify, creating a poignant and powerful climax. “Neverbloom” beautifully conveys the notion that some wounds never fully heal over time, leaving a permanent void in your heart where a particular love—such as the relationship between a parent and child—once thrived.
