Point North Bring Set It Off In For New Version Of “Below The Belt”

Point North have shared a new version of their track “Below The Belt” with the unstoppable Set It Off. The band have only just released their long-awaited new album, Prepare For Despair, and they are already building upon it. The record builds upon the band’s modern take on pop-punk with aplomb and allure, showing off their emotional and eccentric assets gloriously. From the crushing “Safe and Sound” to the vibrant “Dark Days”, it’s an experience to say the least. However that doesn’t mean there isn’t space for more treats, which is where this new version comes into play.

As a song, “Below The Belt” is as dramatic as it gets. Ethereal synths and bubbling energy, it’s a track that explodes like a volcano at several points. It’s all about being dealt blow after shitty blow and not letting it get you down. When the people you think you are closest to are the ones who are laying it into you, it hurts the most. But those are the times when you stand tallest.

Set It Off are a band that deals out this same sort of energy. Their discography is brimming with tracks that call out bullshit and stand up for themselves. That’s why the sass-filled tones of Cody Carson fit so perfectly here. They sound at home because they exude the same aura. That’s why this combo is so potent and iconic. It’s why the two bands work in perfect harmony.

Cody had something to say about the song and how close to it Set It Off are:

“I absolutely love the boys in Point North so when they asked if I would hop on their song ‘Below The Belt, ’ it was a no-brainer.

“Funny story about this song and the song we released called ‘Punching Bag’ is that the first demo of our song was originally titled ‘Mr. Nice Guy’, but that title didn’t feel right to me, so I was like, “I really wanna call it ‘Punching Bag’.

“And Jon told me that his band Point North already had an unreleased song with that title but that he wouldn’t care at all if we felt we should go with that name.

“We both agreed to call Set It Off’s song Punching Bag, and Point North changed their title to ‘Below the Belt’, which I think is an amazing song title!”

Set It Off are going to be appearing at When We Were Young this coming weekend (October 21/22). idobi Radio are going to be there as well, and you’re going to be wanting to listen in. You can do that right here, trust us. They have been dealing out some pain with their recent output as well. Here is the aforementioned “Punching Bag” to show you what we mean.
