Seeing him tonight is a bad idea right? Olivia Rodrigo has shared her second single “bad idea right?” from her upcoming sophomore album GUTS out September 8th. In all its pop-rock glory, the new track is nothing short of an absolute BANGER. Starting off with a grungy guitar riff, you are immediately transported into the attitude-filled, tongue-in-cheek world that Rodrigo has perfected. It is snotty, clever, and feels like a shit-eating grin of a track.
Olivia Rodrigo basically talks the verses, in a smug, self-satisfied fashion. She is doing something she shouldn’t, making a probable mistake, but frankly doesn’t care. Sometimes self-sabotage feels so good. With lyrics like “Yes, I know that he’s my ex / But can’t two people reconnect? / I only see him as a friend / The biggest lie I ever said – I just tripped and fell into his bed.” It is a playful juxtaposition to the heartbreak throughout her debut album SOUR. The “woe is me” theme is dead, and Rodrigo is diving head first into a self-aggrandizing, kickass demeanor. We are obsessed.

The music video for the track is, of course, a cinematic master piece. Honed in on all things Gen Z, it feels like a REAL party. Watching this video is like watching an indie, A24 short film. You have to see it for yourself.
Olivia Rodrigo is set to drop her sophomore album GUTS on September 8th and you can pre-order the album here. At the end of June, Rodrigo released the first single from the album, “vampire“. The initial taster of the album, it was a ballad in true Olivia Rodrigo fashion. We are super stoked “bad idea right?” is showcasing the pop-rock side of her songwriting abilities once again.
