After live-debuting her new song on tour with AJR on June 27 at their Cleveland stop, mxmtoon has officially released “i hate texas.”
mxmtoon notes on Instagram, “i hate texas is finally out!!! had so much fun working on this song and am so happy that after four weeks of singing it live, people get to listen to it whenever they want <3 sorry for saying i hate you texas, it’s not true!!
The indie track, infused with bright fiddle flourishes and twangy country music charm, is a breakup song that may feel all too relatable. “I swear to god if I run into you/And you don’t even know the half of it/I’m moving states and I’ll never admit/But you ruined New York so I had to quit/I’m turning every corner with exceeded caution/Hoping, praying, begging that you’re not in Austin/I hate Texas/But the exits have more room to run away from you.”
Additionally, she shared, “Working on ‘i hate texas’ felt like when I first started making music, like I was completely in my element. I felt inspired to get a little sarcastic and write a song with some kick to it, just as pure fun.”
