Following the release of their debut album Within Each Lies The Other in 2021, As Everything Unfolds has set themselves up to be a juggernaut—not only in the UK where they hail from—but globally. The five-piece unit, led by Charlie Rolfe, has not only laid its foundation as a force to be reckoned with but has effortlessly exceeded the expectations of their peers.

Now, the group has unleashed their sophomore effort Ultraviolet—a high-energy, unapologetic, 11-track masterpiece that sees As Everything Unfolds find their stride and continue to cement themselves on their genre-defying throne. As a whole, the album explores the fundamentals of humanity while creating a dialogue around overcoming internalized struggles to become the greatest version of oneself.

Vocalist Charlie Rolfe exclusively shared a track-by-track breakdown of Ultraviolet with idobi Radio. Take a listen to the group’s new album and read Rolfe’s track-by-track below.

“Ultraviolet”

This song is about taking back control, and that internal power you feel in taking back the control of your own life, and your own freedoms.

“Felt Like Home”

This song is about the thoughts and feelings that come with your happiness but alongside that the stress and pressure of what you do and fulfilling the expectations people have of you.

“Slow Down”

Ever feel like you’re being pulled down? Like someone is your biggest supporter yet your biggest critic. Jealousy is a horrible thing to be on the other side of, this song is about navigating the confusing feelings after breaking free from someone else’s toxic behavior.

“Saint Or Rogue”

This was the first song we wrote for the album, and was fully written during the COVID-19 lockdown. I was very solitary at that time, being at home, and drinking a lot. It’s a commentary of my thoughts and feelings about myself during that time, using suppressants to get through the evenings and not really liking who I became at that time.

“Blossom”

Don’t ever forget where you came from, don’t forget we’re still progressing, and don’t forget there is still so much growth yet to do. We’re constantly changing and evolving in life, learn from it.

“Infrared”

An interlude track with conceptual storytelling on the premise of the album.

“Flip Side”

“Flip Side” definitely is a song with conflicted emotions, it was a song of joy and relief and excitement in moments, especially the chorus, but also a song about battling my own struggles with trying not to be a bitter person, etc.

“Twilight”

I felt so much more unstoppable at this point in my life, so much more positive, laughing at anyone who told me I couldn’t do it, including myself. I felt like I didn’t want to let go of things my brain told me I should have, and I’m glad I didn’t.

“Rose Bouquets”

Lyrically the song talks about throwing away rose bouquets, in this case, this was everything I felt from album one, this song is a farewell song to our debut record Within Each Lies The Other.

“Daylight”

Feel the balance of opposites in your life, the day and the night. Embrace time as a consistent carousel that will send your feelings in circles, round, and round, but this time each time it comes around, learn from it.

“All I’ve Ever Known”

Sometimes you have to see people for who they really are, some people will try everything they can to try and drag you down, when it’s all you’ve ever known it’s hard to break free from that grasp but you can do it.
