Nick Lippman sat down to reflect on the love between a girl dad and his daughters to piece together the ultimate Father’s Day playlist with an incredible lineup of songs that capture the essence of their relationship. From heartfelt ballads to energetic anthems, this playlist is a tribute to the special bond between fathers and their girls. Let’s dive into the songs that make this playlist so unforgettable and be sure to tune into The Real Modern Family Podcast on idobi every Sunday at 11 AM ET.

1. “Daughters” John Mayer

This is the quintessential song for a girl dad. As someone who loves being a girl dad and has such an attachment to my daughters, John Mayer’s “Daughters” always makes me smile and cry. I want to be the best father I can be; the key is that I need to be good to my daughters! This song also taps into the father/daughter relationship by emphasizing the importance of the role that fathers play in shaping the lives of their daughters.

2. “Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time” Panic! At The Disco

This was my theme song for a long time and this was a song that me and the girls used to blast in my car whenever we wanted to just party. We know all the words to Panic! At The Disco’s “Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time”—it’s one of the songs that just reminds me of how much fun the girls and I have together.

3. “Friends” Matchbox Twenty

First off, I just love this song so much! Beyond that, this Matchbox Twenty song reminds me that when I am with my girls I don’t need anything more in life, I don’t have FOMO when I hear or see what my adult friends are doing when I have the kids because my girls are with me. And even when we are just at home hanging, this song reminds me that when I’m with the girls I have everything I need. This song also highlights the significance of friendship and the value of having someone who supports you through thick and thin—who I am to my girls—as I’m not just the parental figure, I’m also their lifelong friend and source of support.

4. “Canned Heat” Jamiroquai

Let me preface that Jamiroquai is one of my favorite artists of all time. That being said, this is another song that I would always put on with the girls and just dance and let our hair down. It’s impossible to listen to this song and not be in a good mood. So I play this all the time when we need to get excited or when things are just awesome and fun or if we want to turn that frown upside down. This song’s funky and groovy melodies add to the celebration factor of Father’s Day!

5. “100 Grandkids” Mac Miller

This song reminds me of my grandmother, who passed away before the girls were born but would always pushed Jamielyn and me to have kids so she could be a great-grandmother. And my mom loves our kids so much and wants to spoil them! I’m also a massive Mac Miller fan!

7. “Daughter” Pearl Jam

I have a very eclectic musical taste and when thinking of a Father’s Day playlist and my daughters, this Pearl Jam classic was one of the first songs I thought of. This song explores the relationship between a father and his daughter—it brings to life the complexities and depth of the father-daughter relationship. This song highlights the importance of the father/daughter relationship as well as celebrates the love and support that fathers provide their daughters.

9. “True” Ryan Cabrera

What can I say about this song—it’s fucking beautiful. Not only is Ryan Cabrera an uncle to my kids but this song is one that the kids also gravitated towards. It’s such a heartfelt song that touches on loyalty, support, and the importance of authentic relationships which are all things I want my girls to understand.

10. “My Girl” Temptations

“My Girl” by Temptations is more of a traditional girl-dad song. There is no way I could make a playlist for Father’s Day as a girl dad without having this song on there. If you know me at all, you know that my girls are my everything and this song nails that feeling. It’s a timeless love song that expresses affection and adoration for someone special and there is no one more special to me than my girls!

11. “Sweet Child O’ Mine” Guns N’ Roses

So this one has a couple of meanings as it is a song from my childhood from my favorite band as a kid and this song always makes me think of my kids as an adult. When I was a kid, I was a massive (and still love them) Guns N’ Roses fan. This song always has a special place in my heart—also come on, this song is fantastic. Lyrically it touches on an emotional bond between a father and his child. Although I believe the initial intent of this song lyrically was a romantic one, it’s easy to reappropriate to my girls.

12. “Fantasy (Remix)” Mariah Carey feat. Old Dirty Bastard

This is a bonus song to the list because I needed to find a way to work in a song the kids would love and somehow work ODB into this playlist because I just had to. This song ties into the celebration aspect of Father’s Day—joy and positivity. This is a great combination of Mariah Carey (who represents my kids) and Old Dirty Bastard (whose goofiness and fun-going demeanor represent me). Then you have Puffy’s production which gives the thrown-back sample vibe for a good time.
