Los Angeles – Rob Thomas jokes that his label, Melisma/Atlantic, is seeing a different side of him as it prepares for the launch of his solo debut, “… Something to Be.” In the multiplatinum group Matchbox Twenty, drummer Paul Doucette was the “bad cop. I was good cop,” Thomas says. “Now I’m good cop and bad cop. A lot of people who thought I was easygoing, pot-smoking Rob don’t think that anymore. Now they see I’m not so easy.” Fans of Matchbox Twenty will also hear a different side of Thomas on the album, which ranges from familiar Matchbox Twenty… Read more »

Matchbox Twenty drummer Paul Doucette got a big break the day before the band launched its tour with Sugar Ray. The drummer broke his hand in a fit of anger during a dress rehearsal and has been playing in pain for two weeks. “It definitely makes me look like a complete idiot,” lamented Doucette. “It wasn’t the smartest thing I’ve ever done.” Doucette, who co-designs the band’s light shows, had been up for three nights ironing out kinks in the staging, but just 24 hours before their first show, an April 25 gig in New Orleans, the presentation was still… Read more »

Last week, it was No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Adult Contemporary chart. Lead singer Rob Thomas said that’s the case with a lot of their songs. “They never have a big, huge impact when they come out. It’s always, like, this slow build and a year later I turn on the radio and I still hear it on the radio and I’m like, ‘Aw, this is great,”‘ Thomas told AP… Read more »

Guitarist Jay Stanley – who, along with guitarist John Goff, parted ways with the band in 1995 – fought a five-year legal battle to get the album released. “It’s about putting the past behind me, putting… Read more »
