Nova Twins — “Anxiety” (Doechii Cover)

Ahead of the release of Parasites & Butterflies, due out on August 29, Nova Twins performed a Spotify Singles Series set. Here, they offered a thrilling live rendition of their single “Piranha” as well as a heavy, daring cover of Doechii’s “Anxiety.” The duo says, “Doechii is such a visionary, whose creativity is really pushing things forward,” the band shares. “When we were choosing a track to cover, ‘Anxiety’ stood out because it’s already been flipped, which made it more of a challenge. We wanted to push ourselves and step outside our comfort zone.” —Maria Serra

Arankai — “Dead Throne”

Blending brooding elements of alt-rock and metal, Arankai have officially signed to Hopeless Records, reissuing their debut album A Portrait Of Red. The artist first turned heads on TikTok, with the viral standout “Dead Throne” offering a sharp-edged counterpoint to Sleep Token’s theatrical metal—less masked pageantry, more pointed bite. The 11-track release marks just the beginning: A Portrait Of Red is the first chapter in an ambitious three-album arc. If this is the opening statement, Arankai’s next move is guaranteed to be a banger. —Paige Owens

20K Rio — “Stand For Less”

Duo 20K Rio is back with a sultry new single, “Stand For Less,” which is rife with themes of vengeance over dark-pop melodies and soaring vocals. “Sometimes someone can get under your skin so deep that you become willing to do anything to get back at them, even if it means that you’ll sacrifice your own well-being in the process. This song is exactly that. If The Weeknd made a rock song, it would sound like this. Mixing classic sounding guitar leads with modern heavy synths, and layering catchy R&B vocal melodies over rock drums, this song blends the best of the old and new in one,” the duo says. —Maria Serra

Your Favorite Color — “Less In Love”

With a sweet, shimmering indie pulse, “Less In Love” captures the kind of freedom you only feel when the night belongs to you. Written during Your Favorite Color’s first UK tour supporting The Driver Era, the track traces a moment of release—running through the streets of London, shedding the weight of expectations, falling back in love with the joy of sound itself. There’s a breathlessness here, carried by sparkling guitar lines and vocal melodies that nod to the melancholy charm of ‘80s UK synth-pop. Think The Smiths if they swapped existential dread for emotional clarity. “Less In Love” isn’t about giving up—it’s about letting go, and letting yourself live. —Paige Owens

G Flip — “Big Ol’ Hammer”

G Flip is blessing our Pride month playlist with their new single “Big Ol’ Hammer.” Not only is this song catchy, sexy, and dance-inducing, its music video features an array of queer icons such as comedian Fortune Feimster, musician Miki Ratsula, and many more. “This is probably the queerest song I’ve ever written,” G Flip says. “This song is about the feeling of putting on a tool belt with a big ol’ hammer – it’s camp, tongue-in-cheek, fun, and not to be taken too seriously. When I wrote it, I immediately knew I wanted to release it during Pride.”

The artist adds, “I feel so fortunate to have had so many of my talented friends involved in the queer video of my dreams. It was really important to me to have diverse representation in the video – I wanted queer representation, non-binary representation, trans representation. Now more than ever, representation is so important, but it doesn’t always have to be serious! Representation in a fun way is also needed. Happy Pride!!” — Maria Serra

Cheap Perfume — “Woke Mind Virus”

Let’s be real… the world is on fire with America’s oligarchs holding the match, and Cheap Perfume knows that in their riot grrl-infused song “Woke Mind Virus.” Band guitarist/co-vocalist Jane No says, “There have been a lot of radical changes in the world since our last release, so I thought it was important for us to come out with something bold. We wrote it in response to the inane ‘war on woke’ and people like Elon Musk demonizing empathy and saying that having compassion is weak. This song is a great gut check for the rest of the album … if you relate to what is being said here, I think you’re going to love the record. If it’s pissing you off, don’t care. Didn’t ask.” —Maria Serra

Biffy Clyro — “A Little Love”

Biffy Clyro’s latest single, “A Little Love,” pulses with quiet defiance and hope. First unveiled during a secret hometown show in Glasgow under the alias Screwfish, the track unfurls with understated power. Its heart beats loudest with resolve across the chorus: “With a little love, if you want it, we can conquer it all/With a little love, if you’re honest, we can defeat them all.” This sentiment is channelled in the message the band shared about their new track, “This ain’t Utopia, but it’s better than Hell.” —Paige Owens

Blessthefall — “Mallxcore”

The lead single to their brand new album (and first in 7+ years), Gallows, dropping September 5 on Rise Records, blessthefall are back with an instant classic before their triumphant return to Warped Tour this weekend. Beau Bokan and the boys have carried the momentum from their 2023 and 2024 singles “Wake The Dead” and “Drag Me Under” featuring Alpha Wolf with more big riffs and breakdowns in a way that has made it clear: they’re about to drop the best LP of their entire career. —Patrick Walford

Orbit Culture — “Death Above Life”

The album-titled track from their newly announced record dropping October 3, some of Sweden’s finest bands in the new and exciting era of metal pulls no punches with 5+ minutes of sick riffs and big breakdowns that will have fans and newcomers of the band stoked for what’s ahead on the new album: headbanging rippers. —Patrick Walford

Aversions Crown — “A Voice From The Outer Dark”

Back with new vocalist Alex Teyen (who you may know from UK band Black Tongue), Aversions Crown are bringing the heat in a big way on their brand new single “A Voice From The Outer Dark.” Whether it’s Alex’s demonic screams and one-of-a-kind sound or the band’s brutal breakdowns and slamming riffs, AC has made a defiant statement that they’re back and better than ever. —Patrick Walford
