Last we heard from Garbage, in the fall of 2005, the group was going on an indefinite hiatus. Fortunately for fans, that break is not turning out like, say, Blink-182’s “hiatus.” “We’re recording a couple new songs at the end of February,” drummer Butch Vig revealed recently. “I think everyone’s excited about getting back in a room and playing some music together.” The new tunes will be included on a Garbage greatest-hits album the band is putting together for release later in the year. “We’ve been working on it for a while,” Vig said. “There was originally talk about doing… Read more »
SANTA MONICA, California – It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from Garbage, but don’t worry, they didn’t break up. Or maybe they did. “It depends on which one of us you ask,” bassist/guitarist Steve Marker said during a recent visit from their Madison, Wisconsin, home base to Los Angeles. “I think we took a break, but some of us think that we broke up, so we haven’t even resolved that yet. We should probably talk about that. It got pretty weird between the four of us, and the music wasn’t really happening, so we took a break. There were times… Read more »
In perhaps his most memorable cameo since donning a furry dolphin suit at a Flaming Lips performance, Justin Timberlake joined Mick Jagger and the rest of the Rolling Stones onstage during the veteran rock band’s set at the concert for Toronto on Wednesday night. The afternoon kicked off on a low point for Timberlake when a concertgoer’s sign questioning the singer’s sexuality made it to the jumbotrons for about 15 seconds. Timberlake took to the stage with an obvious awareness of audience cynicism, beginning his set with a small attempt to mitigate the crowd’s frustration: “This will be over before… Read more »
Fred Durst must have been having a really bad day when the Summer Sanitarium tour stopped outside Chicago Saturday. The Chicago Sun-Times describes Durst as having a tantrum on stage and ending Limp Bizkit’s set after just 20 minutes. The report says heckling fans throwing garbage gave Durst a rough reception. At first, Durst encouraged the abuse, then offered to fight anyone within earshot while yelling curses and sexual putdowns. According to the report, “Had the villain in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ been a vile little boob like Durst rather than a snarly old lady in greenface, the movie’s ‘I’m… Read more »
If it weren’t for Good Charlotte filling in three dates for Garbage, it could have been called the Just a Girl tour. Three of the hardest-rocking women in music will join forces when their bands – No Doubt, Garbage and the Distillers – hit the road together in October. Pop-punkers Good Charlotte will take Garbage’s spot for the first three dates, before Shirley Manson and her cohorts hit the tour October 15 in West Kingston, Rhode Island. Interspersed with the tour, No Doubt will play three dates with the Rolling Stones in Detroit, Toronto and Atlanta. Gwen Stefani’s band is… Read more »
Garbage drummer Butch Vig is suffering from an acute inner ear infection that has forced him to miss his band’s last few tour dates and possibly more. His condition makes him hypersensitive to sound and noise. Matt Chamberlain has been filling in for Vig, playing a pair of shows in Los Angeles over the weekend. Chamberlain is familiar with Garbage’s material. He filled in for Vig when the Garbage skin basher came down with Hepatitis A last November and also played on several tracks on the band’s latest album, Beautifulgarbage. There’s no word as to whether Vig will be healthy… Read more »

Garbage have pushed back the release of Beautiful Garbage until September, but they’re teasing fans by offering a complete track listing for their third album, which they finished recording in April. The album was recorded at drummer/producer Butch Vig’s Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin, and had been expected to hit stores this summer. Beautiful Garbage will contain 13 tracks, including “Drive You Home” and “Cup of Coffee” – tunes that singer Shirley Manson wrote about in her studio diary on the band’s Web site over the winter. No official release date has been set, according to the group’s manager, Gayle… Read more »
Garbage, its former label, Almo Sounds, and its various publishing companies have been sued by Helios Music Corp. for copyright infringement and violation of the Lanham Act over the song “I Think I’m Paranoid.” The suit, filed in United States District Court for the Central District of California claims that Garbage’s “I Think I’m Paranoid”, a hit from the band’s last album, Version 2.0, infringes upon American Breed’s 1967 hit, “Bend Me, Shape Me”. The suit, which also names Rondor Music International, Almo Music Corp., Deadarm Music, Irving Music, and Vibecrusher Music as defendants, claims that the Garbage song “contains… Read more »
Following the release of her latest EP, Headsplit, which Maggie Lindemann dropped earlier this year at the start of International Women’s Month, the dark pop songstress has issued a captivating cover of Paramore’s 2008 single “Decode.” The song, which premiered in October 2008 on Stephenie Meyer’s website, served as the lead original track for the inaugural Twilight film adaptation. Sharing the “Decode” cover on her social platforms, Lindemann writes, “you asked, so you shall receive my decode cover out on youtube now iloveyouuu @paramore” In her cover of “Decode,” Lindemann’s delivery is both powerful and poignant, capturing a similar emotional… Read more »
