O.A.R. will hit the road with Dave Matthews Band June 17 in Maryland Heights, MO, followed by festivals and headline amphitheatre tour dates. If ever there were two bands meant to tour together, O.A.R. and DMB surely fit that bill. Much like DMB, O.A.R. tours constantly and has created a network of incredibly loyal supporters. The band was just named #39 on Pollstar’s Top Tours for First Quarter 2004. O.A.R. follows only two spots behind Dave Matthews and Friends, who came in at #37. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating a six-year-old theory that a Los Angeles Police officer orchestrated the 1997 shooting death of the Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher Wallace) on orders from Death Row label head Suge Knight. The murder took place March 9, 1997, outside the Petersen Auto Museum in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times reports that the FBI is investigating the theory that Amir Muhammad, an associate of imprisoned former Los Angeles Police officer David A. Mack, ambushed the Notorious B.I.G. outside the museum while the rapper was seated in the passenger seat of his SUV. Muhammad, Mack, and… Read more »
Lawyers for a New York woman accused of unlawfully sharing music over the Internet suggested Tuesday the recording industry acted illegally when it investigated her online activities and that a search of music files on her computer may have been unconstitutional. The lawyers – Richard S. Ugelow, Glenn W. Peterson and Daniel N. Ballard – are asking a federal magistrate to delay at least until Sept. 10 ordering the woman’s Internet provider to turn over her name and address to the Recording Industry Association of America, the trade group for the largest labels. In court papers, the lawyers said they… Read more »
The Notorious B.I.G.’s (Christopher Wallace) widow Faith Evans, his mother Voletta Wallace, his son Christopher Jr., and his daughter and her legal guardian have all joined together to file a wrongful-death lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department (L.A.P.D.), its current chief Bernard Parks, former chiefs Willie Williams and Bayan Lewis, and former police officer David Mack and Amir Muhammad, a man some believe was the triggerman in Notorious B.I.G.’s murder, although he was never formally charged. The rap star was murdered outside of the Petersen Automotive Museum on March 10, 1997, and his family feels that the L.A.P.D. could… Read more »
For P.O.D. this week, Youth of the Nation (the tour) had to take a backseat to “Youth of the Nation” (the song). The spiritual rap-rockers canceled a gig in Madison, Wisconsin, Wednesday and flew to Los Angeles to shoot a video for the tune, the second single from Satellite. “Youth of the Nation,” a powerful number written the day of the Santana High School shootings in the band’s hometown of San Diego earlier this year, is scheduled to hit radio and video outlets next month, according to Atlantic Records. The track includes the verse, “Maybe this kid was reaching out… Read more »
