Alice in Chains has signed with Virgin Records and will release its first album with new singer William DuVall, the Los Angeles Times reports. “I can tell you that some amazing songs were written and recorded. From the heaviest riff-dripping gut puncher to the most sadly beautiful song I think this band has ever recorded, I honestly believe that this album will return Alice in Chains to the top of the hard rock heap,” a post on the band’s official Web site reads. Alice In Chains are set to record a new album this year, their first in 13 years. The sessions will also be the band’s first since frontman Layne Staley suffered a fatal drug overdose in 2002. The band, joined by their new singer William DuVall, will head into the studio in the autumn. Writing on the band’s website, band associate Baldy said: “October will arrive and Alice In Chains will reconvene to record the new album. “So, as 2008, winds down, band activity will be gearing up, and at some point in 2009 you’ll finally hear what I’ve been raving… Read more »
Forget the stage, it’s been almost a decade since Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney and Mike Inez – a.k.a. 75 percent of ’90s grunge icons Alice in Chains – have even been in the same room. So when they announced that they’d be taking the stage again this month, it had to be for a good reason. “We all saw what happened with the tsunamis in Southeast Asia. It was such an overwhelming tragedy,”… Read more »

A body was removed tonight (4/19) from the University District residence of Layne Staley, lead singer and guitarist for the Seattle grunge band Alice in Chains. KOMO-TV, citing an unidentified source, said the body was that of Staley, 34. A King County medical-examiner’s investigator said his office removed a body from the Staley address and planned an autopsy today, but he refused to confirm the identity of the person. He said it appeared the person had been dead for some time and would have to be identified scientifically. Staley had a history of substance abuse, and in the early 1990s… Read more »
