Creed Sued for Being "Higher"

Can you take Scott Stapp “Higher”? No, say some disgruntled Creed fans, so they’re taking him to court. On Monday, a quartet of Creed faithful filed suit against the rock group, demanding their money back from a concert at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, outside Chicago on December 29. The concertgoers claim the performance was marked by a whole lot of booze and drugs but little rock ‘n’ roll. According to court documents, frontman Stapp “was so intoxicated and/or medicated that he was unable to sing the lyrics of a single Creed song.” The four plaintiffs, Philip and Linda Berenz… Read more »

Trapt Gets 'Headstrong'

“Headstrong,” Trapt’s first single from its self-titled debut, continues to move up the Alternative and Active Rock Radio & Records chart. The song moves up one spot to Number Four on the Alternative chart, and the song reached Number Two last week on the Active Rock chart. Guitarist Simon Ormandy said the song started off to be a proverbial “middle finger” to the law, but it evolved into a tune about the band sticking to its guns in the music industry. “We were a little younger,” Ormandy said. “Myself as well as [vocalist/guitarist] Chris [Brown] were having some troubles with… Read more »

Tommy Lee Found Not Negligent In Boy's Drowning

A jury in Santa Monica, California, has found Tommy Lee not negligent in the death of a 4-year-old boy who drowned during a pool party at his Malibu home in July 2001. “Although I am relieved that the court has found me not negligent, there are no winners in this sad situation,” Lee said in a statement issued late Thursday. The jury of nine women and three men deliberated for an hour on Wednesday and less than two hours on Thursday, according to a court clerk at the Los Angeles Superior Court. The parents of Daniel Karven-Veres had sought millions… Read more »

Good Charlotte, New Found Glory Let The Music Talk – Review

When Good Charlotte last played here in October 2002, their “Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous” was about how the other half lives and they barely filled the 1,500-capacity Rave in Milwaukee. Since then, of course, the band’s sophomore album, The Young and the Hopeless, has gone platinum, and this time through the Brew City they moved upstairs to the much larger Eagles Ballroom, where they sold out 4,000 tickets in a couple of days and packed the place for Friday’s show. They had a little help from their friends this time, too, as they were joined by New… Read more »

Avril Lavigne Stages Successful Revolt At Tour Opener – Review

Demurely clad in a simple yellow T-shirt and black bondage pants, Avril Lavigne didn’t need to frolic about in choreographed routines to impress her minions. A simple rock show, devoid of flash and fancy moves, demonstrated her back-to-basics intentions, and the audience, composed mostly of straight-haired teenage girls at their very first concert (with chaperones, of course), responded like it was watching the Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1964. “I touched her hand, the one with the blue wristband!” gushed Madison, 10, from Toronto. It wasn’t the last time she and the dozens like her rushed down the… Read more »

Tatu Courts Controversy With Racy Image

Clad in skimpy tank tops, teenage pop stars Lena and Yulia giggle and clasp hands on a Russian television talk show as their hit music video is played for a studio audience. The camera pans over the audience, lingering on a Russian Orthodox priest who grimaces and crosses himself when the video shows the girls kissing. The pop duo Tatu – Russian slang for “This girl (loves) that girl” – has long been causing a sensation at home. But now that the teenagers are also climbing charts around the world, their scanty schoolgirl uniforms, flirtations with lesbianism and in-your-face sexuality… Read more »

Clash, Police, AC/DC Enter Rock Hall

The annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony featured the spirit of 1970s British punk, some anti-war sentiments and probably the loudest noise ever heard at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. In what’s often the case at the glittery ceremony, the honor also brought together a long-estranged group, in this case the Police. The British trio played publicly Monday for the first time in 18 years, singing the reggae-tinged “Roxanne,” the obsessive hit, “Every Breath You Take” and “Message in a Bottle.” “I’d like to make it very clear that there is absolutely no ego in our band whatsoever,”… Read more »

Jackson Paid for Spielberg Hex

Michael Jackson paid a witch doctor to place a curse on DreamWorks partners David Geffen and Steven Spielberg, and wears a prosthetic tip on his nose, claims an article in Vanity Fair magazine. Titled “Losing His Grip,” the article also includes an interview with an unnamed California prosecutor who investigated child molestation allegations against the pop star. The prosecutor said Jackson befriended young boys “and as soon as they started sprouting whiskers – whoosh – they were out the door.” Jackson denied allegations that he sexually molested a 13-year-old boy in 1993. He reached a multimillion-dollar settlement with the teen… Read more »

George Michael Denounces Protest Song

British pop singer George Michael, who has spoken out against a possible war on Iraq, has criticized plans by Lee Ryan of British boy band Blue to gather pop stars to record a protest song. Ryan said last week he hoped to approach stars such as Justin Timberlake, Pink and Kylie Minogue for a song in the spirit of Band Aid, the 1984 record to aid Ethiopian famine relief. But Michael, 39, said the prospective participants were too young and politically naive to carry it off. “I’m begging, I’m hoping that there will not be a Band Aid 2 because… Read more »
