Simple Plan's New Video Get's MADD's Approval

New York – Multi-platinum recording artists Simple Plan recently took a couple of days off during their extensive world tour in order to shoot a poignant video for their new single, “Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me?).” Written and co-directed by the band and director Marc Klasfeld, “Untitled (How Could This Happen To Me?)” is an emotional look at how a family is torn apart by the inconsiderate act of drunk driving. An early cut of the video was sent to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for feedback and the organization lauded the band’s bravery in tackling this important… Read more »

All-American Rejects 'Had To Step It Up' On New LP – Or Else

The All-American Rejects’ second album is truly a work in progress. There are still so many nails exposed and the paint is still so wet that if this album were an episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” Ty Pennington would be bellowing stuff like “Come on, guys! Let’s take it up a couple of notches!” into his megaphone. He would also probably be shirtless. The point is, for a record that’s been in the works for eight months, there’s a whole lot that needs to be done. Like, for example, choosing a proper title. When Interscope Records mailed out promo… Read more »

Good Charlotte Drummer Leaves Band Over 'Health Problems'

Good Charlotte drummer Chris Wilson – who provided the back beat on the band’s latest album, The Chronicles of Life and Death – has left the group due to undisclosed “personal health problems.” The band made the announcement via a letter posted Tuesday on GoodCharlotte.com. “As many of you know, our drummer Chris Wilson has been on and off the road due to personal health problems,” the band wrote. “Unfortunately, his problems continue, and we have made a collective decision to have Chris stay around his friends and family and begin to truly rehabilitate. This has not been easy on… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Wordsmith Puts Breakup Behind Him

When writing the lyrics for “From Under the Cork Tree,” Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, far right, shifted his focus from a romance gone horribly wrong to a more introspective vew of the world. After writing an album’s worth of lyrics about a girl who shattered his heart, Pete Wentz realized that the world is a bigger place than a cold-hearted woman and he needed to pen tunes that reflected that – a world where tsunamis could devastate parts of Asia, a war in Iraq could affect people on a global scale and the Molly Ringwald vs. Samantha Fox debate… Read more »

Hawthorne Heights' Star Is Rising – Just Ask The Guitarist's Mom

Hawthorne Heights frontman JT Woodruff can scream like nobody’s business, but when he’s speaking to you one-on-one, it’s in soft, hushed tones, like his voice has been wrapped in a woolen scarf. And his voice gets even softer when he’s asked about his band’s recent successes: the record that’s climbing the charts, the headlining slot on this summer’s Warped Tour and the video that’s just been added to MTV’s rotation. It’s one thing to be uncomfortable in the spotlight, but Woodruff’s aversion to sudden fame is downright Rivers Cuomo-esque. “Uh, well, it means more kids are coming to our shows.… Read more »

Kill Radio Whip Up A Debut

“I asked the audience to raise their hands if they had a flag sticker on their car,” relates KillRadio singer Brandon Jordan. Sweaty yet adrenalized, the diminutive ska/punk/rock singer is relating an amusing anecdote of his band’s first foray into live performances. “About three-quarters raised their hand,” he continues. “I told them they were fucking idiots because they’re breaking the flag code. Flags are only supposed to be flown on poles. They’re not supposed to be stickers; they’re not supposed to be bandannas, they’re not supposed to be jeans… it doesn’t make you a patriot. The cloak of a scoundrel… Read more »

Travis Barker Calls His Plus-44 Side Project 'Way Out There'

Lately, it seems like Travis Barker’s schedule consists of puking in his bathroom, taking illicit smoke breaks before meeting with his wedding planner, chewing out said wedding planner and then buying punky Dior purses for his wife, Shanna. At least, that’s what we’re led to believe on “Meet the Barkers.” But it turns out the former Blink-182 drummer and current star of reality TV has been really, really busy as of late, cranking out tunes for his electronic side project, Plus-44, which he formed with Blink’s Mark Hoppus and Carol Heller, formerly of Cali-punks Get the Girl. When MTV News… Read more »

My Chemical Romance Reanimate Helena For Online Video Game

Some of the greatest hard-rock bands in history have thoroughly awesome – and thoroughly undead – mascots. Iron Maiden have toothy demon Eddie. Megadeth have a similarly toothy yet blind demon named Vic Rattlehead. And Motörhead unleash yet another toothy, snarling hellion: a bulldog/gorilla named Snaggletooth. So you can’t blame My Chemical Romance for wanting to get in on the act. By now, you’ve probably seen the video for “Helena,” in which MCR play pallbearers at a funeral for a young girl who just happens to rise from her casket about halfway through the clip to bust into a ballerina… Read more »

Blink-182's Hoppus, Barker Form Electronic Side Project

Ever since that fateful February day when Blink-182 announced they were going on an indefinite hiatus, fans of the band have been clamoring to know just what the future holds for their beloved Mark, Tom and Travis. For the most part the guys have remained silent, aside from a few vaguely worded statements from drummer-turned-reality-TV-star Travis Barker. So MTV News sat down with singer/bassist Mark Hoppus, and while he claimed the group’s current hiatus had been planned for some time, he also made it sound like Blink fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a reunion. “We’ve always planned to have… Read more »

Lollapalooza Music Fest Is Chicago Bound

Los Angeles – Lollapalooza – a marquee touring festival of the 1990s that fell on commercial hard times last year – is returning this year in drastically scaled-down form. Lollapalooza ’05 will run July 23-24 in Chicago’s Grant Park. The band lineup will not be announced until the third week in April. The festival Web site (www.lollapalooza.com) will go live Friday. Lollapalooza began life in 1991 as a major vehicle for the exposure of left-field rock talent. A highly successful summer touring proposition in the early ’90s, it took a five-year hiatus from 1998-2002, as other treks like the Vans… Read more »
