Grohl Gets Behind Killing Joke's 'Axis'

Foo Fighters frontman/rock drummer extraordinaire Dave Grohl is showing up everywhere – his latest gig is as the drummer on the new Killing Joke album, Billboard reports in the April 12 issue. The project, which will be out in June on Sony worldwide, is tentatively titled “Axis of Evil.” Produced by Gang Of Four’s Andy Gill, the album is the veteran U.K. rock act’s first since 1996’s “Democracy.” It turns out that Grohl is a huge Killing Joke fan; he met the group’s leader, Jaz Coleman, in New Zealand recently and agreed to play on the album. They recorded the… Read more »

Limp Bizkit Picks Snot Alumnus for Guitar Slot

After a nationwide talent search failed to yield a replacement for guitarist Wes Borland, Limp Bizkit has chosen former Snot axeman Mike Smith as his successor. Smith made his Bizkit debut last Sunday, when the group played live as part of Wrestlemania XIX in Seattle. “We really like jamming with Mike,” Bizkit frontman Fred Durst said on the band’s official Web site (http://www.limpbizkit.com). “He’s dope. This you will find out soon enough.” The band is still working on material that will appear on its upcoming Flip/Interscope album, due June 17. Durst has repeatedly offered different titles for the set, including… Read more »

The group’s next TVT album, “Skeletons,” is due April 22. The set is the follow-up to Nothingface’s 2000 effort, “Violence,” which reached No. 24 on Billboard’s… Read more »

Great White Fire Ranks as Rock's Worst Tragedy

From rampaging bikers at the Rolling Stones’ infamous Altamont show in 1969 to deadly stampedes by fans of the Who and Pearl Jam, the most notorious rock concert tragedies have generally been linked to the biggest names in the business. That is, until Great White took the stage of a tiny Rhode Island nightclub Thursday night. The heavy metal “hair” band, which reached the brief apex of its career in the 1980s, will now be forever remembered for a devastating fire that stands in a class by itself as the deadliest episode in the annals of rock ‘n’ roll mayhem.… Read more »

Incubus Sue To Get Out Of Recording Contract

Incubus filed suit against Sony Music on Thursday seeking to be released from their recording contract with Sony subsidiary Epic Records. The suit – filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in Santa Monica on behalf of singer Brandon Boyd, guitarist Mike Einziger, drummer Jose Pasillas and bassist Alex Katunich – asks a judge to allow them to set aside their original deal, which they claim they have satisfied. “This isn’t Courtney Love or some other artists where we’re walking away from a deal,” said the band’s manager, Steve Rennie, referring to a suit settled last year in which Love sought… Read more »

Vacancies In Metallica, Bizkit So Far Filled Only With Jokes

We know Metallica and Limp Bizkit will headline the Summer Sanitarium Tour, but what we don’t know is who will be in those bands. Or do we? “We got Yngwie Malmsteen,” Fred Durst deadpanned Wednesday at a press conference to announce the tour, which also features Linkin Park, the Deftones and Mudvayne. “Oh man, he was next on my list,” Lars Ulrich said of the Swedish metal guitar virtuoso. “I’ll take Steve Vai and give you him,” Durst shot back. Of course, Durst and Ulrich were joking. Metallica’s bassist slot and Limp Bizkit’s guitarist slot remain vacant. The latter band… Read more »

All three bands will play headline-length sets. Tickets for most of the shows will be going on sale Feb. 22. Mudvayne and the Deftones will be the opening acts. “We want to play stadiums in the summer, and we need more than just Metallica to fill the seats,” Metallica singer-guitarist James… Read more »
