THE SUMMER OBSESSION Comes Into Their Season

If there’s a self-fulfilling prophecy in the musical landscape of the year, it’s the way the Virgin debut band THE SUMMER OBSESSION is coming into its own, with its crunchy pop-rock combination of guitar, electronics, and faultless songwriting, during the dog days of 2006. The Florida-based quartet — Luke, on keyboards and vocals; Chris, formerly of Good Charlotte, on drums and “shenanigans”; Fin, on guitar and vocals; and Christ, on bass, with Josh Abraham (Velvet Revolver, P!nk) producing and Ryan Williams engineering (OutKast, Rage Against the Machine) — will release the album “THIS IS WHERE YOU BELONG” on Virgin Records… Read more »

Ataris Versus "Boys Of Summer"

You know The Ataris’ current hit “Boys Of Summer?” Those SoCal punkers actually didn’t want you to hear that tune. Ever. Well, at least not their version of it. “That was something we DID NOT want released as a single,” grunts bassist/vocalist Mike Davenport about the Don Henley cover tune. “We didn’t even want it on our album, but the record label pushed for it and it proved to be a good idea. They respected our wishes to not release it as an actual single, but the radio stations decided to play it and it caught on. There’s nothing you… Read more »

Yoko Ono Yanks Painting Of John Lennon From School Auction

John Lennon asked his fans to “imagine no possessions,” but his widow appears to be claiming exclusive ownership of the ex-Beatle’s very image. Yoko Ono’s lawyers recently sent a letter to British artist Joanne Shaw demanding that she not sell prints of a photo-realist painting she’s created of Lennon, according to Alan Black, the artist’s business manager. “They told us no one can sell a picture of John Lennon without Yoko Ono’s permission,” Black said. “It’s OK to draw a picture of John Lennon, but don’t try to sell it.” A lawyer and a spokesperson for Ono did not return… Read more »

Durst Says Time Is Right For His Movie About School Outcast

Fred Durst says he can help explain the violence plaguing America’s schools with his upcoming filmmaking debut, “Runts,” about a high school outcast. “Crazy things are happening that don’t need to be happening, and people are retaliating in the wrong way,” the Limp Bizkit frontman said. “This movie needs to happen now.” But the film is still far from hitting theaters. Durst said if a threatened actors strike hits Hollywood this summer, production will not begin until the strike is over. The project has been in development for more than a year. “There are so many movie studios that are… Read more »
