Snippets Of Nirvana Song At Center Of Lawsuit Appear Online

Portions of the last recorded Nirvana track surfaced online this week, bringing a new twist to the legal debate between Courtney Love and Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Live bootlegs of “You Know You’re Right” have circulated for years, but until now the studio version has gone mostly unheard. (Love spun the song at a London club in March and provided part of it to “Access Hollywood.”) Although she claims to possess more than 100 tapes of unheard material from the late Kurt Cobain, “You Know You’re Right” has been singled out as a huge potential hit by Love and… Read more »

Fred Durst is about to start “Rollin’,” for real. The Limp Bizkit frontman will direct “Lords of Dogtown,” a feature-film adaptation of the current big-screen documentary “Dogtown and Z-Boys” which details the origins of skateboarding. Production is scheduled to start in late summer, according to Durst representatives at the Firm. The nonfictional account tells the tale of a group of surfers who take their extreme moves to the street and then the world. What starts as a few dudes sliding around emptied, in-ground swimming pools evolves into a full-fledged sport worth millions of dollars in sponsorships and televised events such… Read more »

Web Royalties Topic of Debate on Capitol Hill

Indie labels and artists’ reps hit Capitol Hill Tuesday in an 11th-hour bid to push through a new royalty rate that Webcasters will have to pay for music streamed on the Internet. Webcasters say the rate set by a special arbitration panel will put them out of business, and Wednesday morning will ask the Senate Judiciary Committee to intervene. The congressional hearing comes less than a week before Librarian of Congress James Billington is due to announce the official rate. The label executives mounting Tuesday’s counteroffensive on Capitol Hill said the record biz is willing to live with the proposed… Read more »

Too Punk For Pink? Flabby Rockers Have New Workout Option

So you’re too young to be sweatin’ to the oldies with Richard Simmons. And with musical tastes that lean closer to the Buzzcocks than Britney, you’ll feel a bit dorky getting your body started with the Pink-inspired Bally Total Fitness Center cardio-workout. The beach season is creeping up faster than you can say “Gabba Gabba Hey,” so what’s a self-respecting rocker who wants to get toned to good tunes gonna do? If said rocker can get their flabby butt to Boston or New York, they can shed their spare tire to the sounds of the Sex Pistols, the Stranglers and… Read more »

Usher Takes Audience Member To Bed At Seattle Tour Opener

“Let me take you to a place nice and quiet,” Usher sang on “Nice and Slow” halfway through an hour-and-a-half headlining set at Key Arena Wednesday night. “Nice” was all taken care of – and “nasty” got equal time, with Usher playing the roles of both sweet lover and triple-X seducer – but the Key was the furthest thing from quiet. The screams of thousands of lust-crazed female fans surged at every hip thrust and low croon, shaking the arena’s foundations in a way even last year’s 6.8 magnitude quake couldn’t touch. Boasting more outfit changes than Cher, the R&B… Read more »
