P.O.D. Rockets To No.1 On Total Request Live

“Alive,” the first single/video from Atlantic recording group P.O.D.’s upcoming new album, “SATELLITE,” rocketed into the No.1 position on today’s installment of MTV’s Total Request Live. The controversial video – directed by Francis Lawrence – made its MTV debut last week on the August 20th episode of TRL, with the band on hand in the studio to introduce the clip. The much-anticipated “SATELLITE” arrives in stores nationwide on September 11th. The video’s remarkable success can be attributed to the support of both P.O.D.’s loyal fanbase – known as the “Warriors” – along with equally enthused newcomers, many of whom were… Read more »

Singer Aaliyah's Body Flown To United States

The body of the late pop and soul singer Aaliyah was flown back to the United States Tuesday as safety experts examined the plane that crashed in the Bahamas, killing her and eight others. Mariah Carey's New Album Delayed After Breakdown

As Mariah Carey recovers from a nervous breakdown, the pop singer’s Virgin Records label said Thursday it had delayed the release of her new album, the first under a lucrative new contract. Carey, 31, was released from a Connecticut hospital Tuesday, having received a two-week treatment for what her publicists described as an “emotional and physical breakdown” as a busy schedule led to bizarre public behavior. She is resting with her mother at an undisclosed location. In a statement, Virgin said Carey’s new album, “Glitter,” would be released Sept. 11, instead of Aug. 21. The album doubles as the soundtrack… Read more »

D12 And Esham Booted Off Warped Tour

When the Vans Warped Tour hit Camden, New Jersey, on Friday, a longstanding Detroit rap rivalry reared up and got its participants, D12 and Esham, evicted from the lineup. A fight erupted backstage at the Tweeter Center at the Waterfront between Natas affiliates Esham and T.N.T. and Eminem protégés D12, just three days after Em’s crew joined the punk/extreme-sports outing. Warped Tour organizers wouldn’t discuss the flap’s details and only confirmed that both parties involved were immediately asked to leave the tour. “Personal issues were brought into the tour, and we felt they weren’t conducive to the Warped environment and… Read more »

Special Report: Breaking An Act On The Web

Radio airplay is and has been the primary driver of retail record sales in the United States. Some estimate that nearly 90 percent of sales is the direct result of an artist being exposed on radio. But today, radio is joined by an array of other media choices: MTV, BET, and VH1, digital downloads, and streamed audio. Consumers borrow friend’s CDs and tapes, and see live performance. Any record label or promoter would be remiss by ignoring any one of these outlets since they all help to sell music. In the first-ever project of its kind, James Schureck at Jeff… Read more »

The once fertile scene of Lollapalooza, Lilith Fair, the HORDE and Furthur has dried up in recent years, leaving the U.S. summer tour circuit a less festive place for traveling rock music festivals. So pop auteur Moby, in the wake of the success of his latest album, “Play,” has decided to do something about that. “I’ve spent a long time playing European festivals and was impressed by how eclectic and open they were,” explains Moby, whose Area: One tour opened Wednesday in Atlanta. “There was a period in the States where we had a few really interesting festivals….
