“Alive,” the first single/video from Atlantic recording group P.O.D.’s upcoming new album, “SATELLITE,” rocketed into the No.1 position on today’s installment of MTV’s Total Request Live.
The controversial video – directed by Francis Lawrence – made its MTV debut last week on the August 20th episode of TRL, with the band on hand in the studio to introduce the clip. The much-anticipated “SATELLITE” arrives in stores nationwide on September 11th.
The video’s remarkable success can be attributed to the support of both P.O.D.’s loyal fanbase – known as the “Warriors” – along with equally enthused newcomers, many of whom were introduced to the band via last year’s TRL chart-topper, “Rock The Party (Off The Hook),” from their RIAA platinum certified Atlantic debut, “THE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF SOUTHTOWN.” The latter clip ascended to No.1 in July 2000, establishing P.O.D. as only the third rock band to hit the TRL peak position since the program’s September 1998 debut, following Korn and Limp Bizkit.
P.O.D. is set for a number of major events surrounding the September 11th release of “SATELLITE.” On Wednesday, September 5th, the San Diego-based quartet will play a special live afternoon concert at an as-yet-undisclosed outdoor location in New York City as part of MTV’s “VMA Music Week” festivities, building anticipation for the network’s 2001 MTV Video Music Awards show the following night. TRL will cover the P.O.D. event live, including airing the band’s performance of “Alive.” The band will then head south for a September 8th concert at Universal Studios Theme Park in Orlando, Florida. The weekend’s activities will wrap up on Sunday, September 9th in the band’s hometown of San Diego, where they will perform as part of the city’s annual “Street Scene” music festival. P.O.D. are set to appear on the “Ford Stage” alongside such artists as Outkast, the Offspring, and the Long Beach Dub Allstars.
September 10th – the eve of the new album’s release – will find P.O.D. making a midnight in-store appearance at a San Diego branch of The Wherehouse (7500 Hazard Center Drive). The next day, P.O.D. travels to Tower Records in Northridge, California (19320 Nordhoff Street) for an exclusive in-store performance and “SATELLITE” autographing session. The following evening, September 12th, will see the band headlining a sold-out club concert at the renowned Los Angeles nightspot, the Troubadour. The week will close on a high note on Friday, September 14th, as P.O.D. make a highly anticipated appearance on NBC-TV’s The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, where they’re set to blow up the show with a performance of “Alive.”
P.O.D. will then head to Europe for two weeks of promotion, kicking off on October 1st. Upon their return to the U.S., the band will head out on the road for a full headlining tour of North America, with dates set to run from October 18th through early December.
