Neil Diamond, one of the most dependable touring acts in the music business, will return to the road in September to promote his first album of new material in four years, a spokeswoman said on Sunday. The 60-year-old singer/songwriter, famed for such tunes as “Cracklin’ Rosie” and “Solitary Man,” will be promoting his new album “Three Chord Opera” which hits U.S. stores on July 24. McLean’s revelations of depression and alcohol abuse shook the pop world at its foundations, and perhaps no one can better understand the pressures of being in a multiplatinum pop group than the members of ‘NSYNC. Former Pixies bassist Kim Deal and her side-project-turned-chart-topping-power-pop-band are just a few days away from completing their first album since 1993’s Last Splash. Members of Slipknot, Agnostic Front, Sepultura, Hatebreed, Skarhead and Pete Steele of Type O Negative, Sen-Dog of Cypress Hill, and Phillip Anselmo of Pantera are featured on Biohazard ‘s new album. The metal/hardcore/hip-hop group will release its sixth studio LP, the thirteen-track Uncivilization, September 11th on Sanctuary Records. Orange County, California rockers Lit are nearing completion on their third full-length album, due out October 9th. Working in North Hollywood’s NRG Studios with producer Don Gilmore, who handled the band’s 1999 sophomore breakthrough A Place in the Sun as well as recent efforts from Sugar Ray and Eve 6, the group has tracked fifteen tunes and is presently knee-deep in mixing. For the first time in almost four years, one of Australia’s most successful rock bands, INXS, is playing a few shows in North America. But the crowd at their recent Los Angeles stop consisted of about 70 Rhino Records employees and a few reporters, just two of the band’s six members were on stage, and the bespectacled singer looked nothing like Michael Hutchence, the group’s charismatic vocalist. OutKast will include several new tracks on their upcoming best-of album, due before year’s end. Prior to joining Moby’s Area: One summer festival tour (which launches today in OutKast’s hometown of Atlanta), the hip-hop duo logged some studio time and recorded several songs and plan to release four or five of those new songs on the hits package.
