OutKast will include several new tracks on their upcoming best-of album, due before year’s end. Prior to joining Moby’s Area: One summer festival tour (which launches today in OutKast’s hometown of Atlanta), the hip-hop duo logged some studio time and recorded several songs and plan to release four or five of those new songs on the hits package.
The album would be the fifth release for OutKast, and the first since last year’s smash, Stankonia, which has gone triple-platinum. In addition to the new material and songs from Stankonia, the hits package will include songs from the group’s three prior releases: Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik (1996), ATLiens (1996) and Aquemini (1998).
Though OutKast told Rolling Stone that they were planning to release a new album – even a double album – this year, the summer tour and the hits album will likely delay the proper follow-up to Stankonia until next year.
