Backstreet Release Greatest Hits


With the Backstreet Boys tour back on track, the group is now planning to release their first-ever greatest hits package on October 23rd. The collection, titled Chapter 1, features favorites like “I Want It That Way,” “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and “Larger Than Life.” The tracks on the record will vary depending on the country of release, but all albums will contain the new single, “Drowning.” A companion VHS and DVD will accompany the album. Columbia Recording artist Maxwell’s eagerly-awaited third full-length album, Now, is debuting at the #1 slot on the Billboard Top 200 Album Sales chart with first week’s sales of more than 296,000 units, according to SoundScan. Singer Aaliyah's Body Flown To United States


The body of the late pop and soul singer Aaliyah was flown back to the United States Tuesday as safety experts examined the plane that crashed in the Bahamas, killing her and eight others. A private jet carrying the body of the 22-year-old singer and movie actress landed at Newark International Airport in New Jersey, and a hearse carried the casket away to an unknown location, according to sources. Did MTV Derail "Soul Train"?


Soul Train mastermind, Don Cornelius, has sent a letter to the Justice Department alleging that MTV is violating antitrust laws, according to the Los Angeles Times. Cornelius is accusing the music network of pressuring performers who appear on MTV shows not to perform on rival shows for a 30-day period. For example, Cornelius says, MTV won’t let artists booked on next month’s Video Music Awards to appear on his upcoming Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. Surprise! New Michael Jackson Single Released To Radio


“You Rock My World,” the first single from Michael Jackson’s new album, Invincible, was unexpectedly released to radio outlets on Friday (August 24). As late as Thursday afternoon, Jackson’s label, Epic Records, said that it had not lined up a radio add date for the single. Though some fans may not believe it until they see it in stores, Michael Jackson’s first full album of original material in 10 years, Invincible, is slated for an October 30 release.
