Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong has hinted that their forthcoming new Butch Vig-produced album could take a “powerpop” direction. Foxboro Hot Tubs, the alter-ego side project of Green Day, is hitting the road for the first time, beginning Monday (May 19) in Little Rock, Arkansas. Tickets for each show on the eight-date trek will be available only on the day of the performance at the venue box office, for $20 cash. According to the band’s publicist, cameras are not permitted. Green Day have revealed they have 45 songs prepared for their new album. The band is currently working on the follow up to 2004’s American Idiot and has admitted that they are at a chaotic stage in the writing and recording process. After working with Bayer for “American Idiot,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Holiday,” the band hooked up with him again for “Wake Me When September Ends” after the guys returned from a sold-out Asian tour at the end of March. In true punk rock fashion, Green Day tested the censors at the Grammy Awards on Sunday – and the censors were ready. The Bay Area rockers, on a career high with their “American Idiot” album, added a shot of rock ‘n’ roll adrenaline by performing the title cut. The disc won the Grammy for best rock album. The song includes a prominent obscenity in one of the lyrics, but the censors were plainly prepared and neatly excised the word.
