Eminem’s movie has gone from having a generic “Project” title to one that encapsulates the projects. The former “Untitled Detroit Project” is now “8 Mile,” a Universal Pictures spokesperson said Tuesday. “8 Mile” is the nickname for Detroit’s 8 Mile Road, which is considered to be the dividing line between the black and white communities in Eminem’s home city. “8 Mile” will wrap production in January and is scheduled to hit theaters in July, according to the spokesperson. Carlos Santana is hard at work on the follow-up to his 1999 mega-seller Supernatural, but Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas-who co-wrote and sang on that album’s Grammy-winning single, “Smooth”-says the guitar legend is taking a different path on this outing. Several weeks into shooting one film and with two others lined up after it, Ice Cube continues his gradual transition from rapper/actor to actor/rapper. Cube has just begun shooting Friday After Next, the follow-up to 2000’s Next Friday and third in the ghetto-fabulous series that began with 1995’s Friday.
