Anti-U.S. Protesters Crash Syria Rock Concert


About 50 Syrian protesters crashed a U.S.-sponsored public rock concert in Damascus on Thursday held in honor of victims of the September 11 attacks, demanding Washington stop its battle cry against Iraq. “Stop the drums of war so we can hear your music,” protesters yelled at the rock memorial, which was attended by around 150 people, including some Americans. Cobain's House Garners $210,000


Bids exceeding $40 million for a house where the late grunge rocker Kurt Cobain lived as a boy were not serious, the sellers say. Since the nondescript, rust-colored house with white trim was offered on eBay last Thursday, the high offer from a serious bidder is $210,000, which is $10,000 over the minimum set by Ed and Jennifer McKee of Oregon City, Ore. Lonestar Wants Weird Fan Stories


The guys in Lonestar are using their Web site to invite fans to submit unusual personal stories as a promotion for their single titled “Unusually Unusual.” The band said stories need to be 50 words or less, submitted before Friday the 13th, and that authors must be 18 to enter. Pressplay Gives Early Tracks


Digital-music subscription service Pressplay will offer subscribers access to exclusive new online tracks to stream or download from forthcoming albums well in advance of their release on CD, the company said Wednesday. The first material for the program, which will offer songs from both established and developing artists, will come from upcoming work by Bon Jovi, LL Cool J, Nine Days and Natalie Cole. Like so many one-hit wonders before it, the demise of the once iconic online song-swapping service Napster has failed to stir much sympathy. “Really, who cares?” Sebastian, a student at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, told Reuters as he heard that Napster would likely be forced into Chapter 7 liquidation as early as Thursday. “Everybody’s moved on to other file-sharing (services). Unwritten Law Guitarist Injured In Alleged Bomb Attack


Unwritten Law guitarist Steve Morris was injured at his home on Thursday (August 29) night from a bomb explosion. The homemade device was allegedly planted by Morris’s neighbor, a security guard and local police officer, according to a statement released by the band’s record company. The guitarist suffered injuries to his arms and eardrums and the band has now cancelled several upcoming tour dates as he recovers. Morris’s neighbor was arrested and taken into custody. Rapper Eminem walked off with four MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday, including one for Video of the Year, in a show bookended by rousing performances by Bruce Springsteen and a rare appearance by heavy metal rockers Guns N’ Roses.
