Justin Timberlake and Beyonce lead the pop parade of nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards with seven nods apiece, it was announced Tuesday. Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” was nominated for video of the year, as was Timberlake’s ambitiously cinematic “What Goes Around … Comes Around,” which co-starred Scarlett Johansson. Los Angeles – Wednesday’s VH1 Big in ’04 awards show was a terrifying example of life imitating art, one that was dreadfully similar to “Saturday Night Live”‘s “Train Wreck Awards” skit from a few weeks ago. You can tell Fred Durst’s been kind of down lately by the way he’s all agitated when responding to the have-you-and-Britney-been-dating questions and, more importantly, the fact that he’s not sporting his usual jaunty red baseball cap. While pre-release bootlegging has long been a detriment (or promotional tool, if you ask some cynics) to hip-hop, it’s not the only genre having a hard time keeping its music under wraps. Demos credited to the unnamed group featuring Chris Cornell and members of Rage Against the Machine have been leaked online. Thirteen tracks purported to be results of the collaboration surfaced on a Web site with an Italian domain on Thursday.
