The average cellphone customer pays more than $3 per minute, according to a report being issued this week by the  Utility Consumers’ Action Network, a San Diego consumer advocacy group. Researchers arrived at the average $3.02-per-minute charge by comparing the average number of minutes charged in more than 700 San Diego consumers’ telecom bills and dividing by the average number of actual minutes used. “We knew it was a myth that wireless costs were going down,” said Michael Shames, UCAN’s executive director. “But we were blown away by the actual costs.” That $3-per-minute figure is skewed by the relatively small… Read more »

Kings of Leon will be among the headliners of this year’s Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits festivals, Billboard Magazine is reporting. Depeche Mode the Beastie Boys and Jane’s Addiction are also playing Lollapalooza, which takes place in Chicago’s Grant Park Aug. 7-9, the Chicago Tribune reports and Billboard’s sources confirm. Both events are produced by Austin, Texas-based C3 Productions. The full Lollapalooza lineup announcement is expected in April. New Orleans-based eclectic/innovative rock quartet MUTEMATH has confirmed an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this Thursday Jan. 15, 2009. The Grammy-nominated band will perform a brand new song entitled, “Spotlight,” from the chart-topping Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, TWILIGHT, based on the Stephanie Meyers book which has become an international phenomenon.
