Vivendi Universal Closes On Acquisition Of MP3.Com


Vivendi Universal (Paris Bourse: EX FP; NYSE:V) announced that it successfully completed the acquisition of San Diego-based MP3.com, Inc. in a combined cash and stock transaction on August 28, 2001. MP3.com stockholders voted in favor of the merger transaction at a special meeting of stockholders held Monday, August 27, 2001. MP3.com was delisted from Nasdaq effective prior to opening for trading Tuesday, August 28. Of the more than 69 million shares outstanding, over 68 percent were voted. P.O.D. Rockets To No.1 On Total Request Live


“Alive,” the first single/video from Atlantic recording group P.O.D.’s upcoming new album, “SATELLITE,” rocketed into the No.1 position on today’s installment of MTV’s Total Request Live. Singer Aaliyah's Body Flown To United States


The body of the late pop and soul singer Aaliyah was flown back to the United States Tuesday as safety experts examined the plane that crashed in the Bahamas, killing her and eight others. A private jet carrying the body of the 22-year-old singer and movie actress landed at Newark International Airport in New Jersey, and a hearse carried the casket away to an unknown location, according to sources. Jay-Z To Tour U.S.


Four days before his sixth album, The Blueprint, hits stores, Jay-Z will begin a theater tour of the U.S on September 14th in Columbus, Ohio. Joining him will be Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek and other members of his Roc-A-Fella Records roster. Before the tour, Jay-Z will appear perform his new single, “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards, which will take place September 6th at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera House. Michael Jackson's New Album Cost $30 Mln To Produce


Michael Jackson fans got the news they were waiting for Thursday: the “King of Pop’s” first studio album in six years – one that reportedly cost a record-setting $30 million to make – will be released in late October. “Invincible,” released on Sony Music’s Epic Records label, is slated to hit stores internationally on Oct. 29 and in the United States and Canada on Oct. 30, the label said. Though some fans may not believe it until they see it in stores, Michael Jackson’s first full album of original material in 10 years, Invincible, is slated for an October 30 release. Music Sales Down 10 Percent This Year


Music buyers kept a tighter hold on their purse strings in the first half of 2001, but for those who did hit the stores, full-length CDs accounted for even more purchases than they did last year, according to data released Monday by the Recording Industry Assn. of America. Unit shipments of music in all formats tumbled nearly 10% in the first six months of the year compared with the same period a year ago, while their dollar value slipped by 4.4% to $5.9 billion, the RIAA said.
