Columbia Records will release The Concert For New York City – a 2-CD collection documenting the historic all-star concert event held to benefit those in need affected by the World Trade Center tragedy. Island Adds Two Execs


Spring Aspers has been named vice president of soundtracks and supervision for the Island Def Jam Music Group. This newly created position is intended to enhance Island Def Jam’s soundtrack activities after the establishment of Universal’s Film Music Division under Kathy Nelson. That Division created new opportunities for all of Universal Music Group’s record labels by Universal Music and Universal Pictures soundtrack album activities. Island Def Jam/Def Soul yesterday announced four new executive appointments. Carol Corless has been named Senior Director of Production; Chonita L. Dido Pens Song For Britney


Dido may be out of the spotlight while working on her next album, but she will still be heard literally by millions thanks to a contribution to the new Britney Spears album, Britney, due in stores Tuesday (November 6). Loudeye Lays Off Staff


Loudeye Technologies today announced measures to reduce its permanent workforce by approximately 19 percent from 265 to 215. The company said that the move is an effort to further improve operating efficiencies by consolidating facilities in the wake of the company’s acquisition of Seattle-based Activate on September 25. According to a Loudeye spokesperson, the action is a result of Loudeye’s ongoing integration of its Activate acquisition. “As this integration occurs, we are seeing opportunities to optimize operating efficiency through facilities consolidation and trimming staffing redundancies.
