T.I. gets a year and a day for weapon charges

ATLANTA – A Northern Georgia District judge sentenced T.I. to one year and one day in prison on felony weapons charges Friday, calling the rapper’s plea deal “experimental” but a success. Judge Charles Pannell, Jr. told the rapper he had more than exceeded the court’s expectations, and he hoped his case would inspire similar plea deals. As a part of the plea deal Clifford “T.I.” Harri) struck last March, the year-and-a-day sentence was expected. The rapper is also required to complete 1,000 hours of community service before turning himself in, and another 500 hours after completing his sentence. He also… Read more »

Kasabian Mix Big Riffs And Dance Beats To Make Noisy Love During War

Used record bins are flooded with albums from swaggering British lads whose bands have conquered England and have their eyes set on cracking the States. Not too many of them can claim to have their music used in two of the most popular TV shows in the country before most Americans have ever heard of them, though. The vaguely scary, beat-crazy sound you might have heard on recent episodes of “Desperate Housewives” and “CSI: Miami” comes courtesy of Kasabian, currently infecting American ears with the intense marriage of druggy beats and massive guitar riffs from their self-titled debut. “We’re going… Read more »

Bono Leading Campaign to Fight AIDS

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Brad Pitt is among the A-list celebrities featured in new public service announcements for a campaign led by U2 singer Bono to fight poverty and AIDS. The campaign was not immediately asking for donations but simply raising awareness and recruiting new advocates, Bono said Wednesday at an event announcing the public service announcements “We’re not just asking for people to put cash in the pot here,” Bono said. “Americans are generous, we know they’ll do that. We’re not actually asking for their money, we’re asking for their voice.” Pitt, who visited Africa after being inspired by… Read more »

Ex-Korn Guitarist Baptized in Jordan River

KIBBUTZ KINNERET, Israel – Former Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch was baptized Saturday in the Jordan River, just weeks after quitting his band, drug habits and rock-and-roll lifestyle for religion. Welch, a founding member of the multi-platinum band, and about 20 other white-robed Christian pilgrims from a Bakersfield, Calif., church were immersed by their pastor, Ron Vietti. Welch said the ritual baptism had washed away his anger. “You know when you get angry and it builds up? I felt like hurting someone before, now I feel like hugging people,” he said. Vietti said Welch – who has “Jesus” tattooed across… Read more »

Troubled rapper O.D.B., in a casket surrounded by red and white flowers, was remembered by family and friends Wednesday at a Harlem church where the focus was on the positives in his life. “I grew up in this man’s music,” said Jason Davis, 25, who traveled to New York from Camden, N.J., to bid farewell to the man born as Russell Jones. The wake, which was open to the public, will be followed Thursday by another wake and a funeral.
