‘NSYNC just keep digging deeper into the dance music community. First they recruited BT to produce Celebrity’s first single, “Pop,” and now they’ve hired Deep Dish to remix it. The Washington, D.C., house duo, who remixed Madonna’s “Music” and were nominated for the Remixer of the Year Grammy, sought to give the song a wide range of emotions. “It sounds like Basement Jaxx on estrogen,” Deep Dish’s Sharam Tayebi said Thursday (June 14). “It has all these crazy elements, but it’s tough. ‘NSYNC have found themselves in a pickle. The group’s forthcoming album, Celebrity, has been shelved until mid summer. The Backstreet Boys’ most recent record, a bellwether for Celebrity if ever there was one, wasn’t quite the huge success the Boys’ previous two were, causing some observers to even decree teen pop dead. ‘NSYNC hit their legion of fans with a double whammy Wednesday morning. Their record company, Jive, announced that not only has the group delayed the release of its new album, Celebrity, from June 26 to July 24, but the start of the boys’ PopOdyssey tour has been pushed back again as well. The band isn’t quite done recording the album, a Jive spokesperson said. The members of ‘NSYNC traveled to the Cannes Film Festival last May to announce – with maximum fanfare – that they planned to film a movie together. Early birds catch the worms, and this year they’ll also be able to catch live performances from ‘NSYNC, the Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Lopez and Destiny’s Child on NBC’s “Today” show. Long-quiet pop superstar Michael Jackson will return to the spotlight in September with a massive concert tribute to his own career that will include a reunion with the Jackson 5 and collaborations with ‘NSYNC, Britney Spears and Whitney Houston. ‘NSync was the top musical act at the seventh annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards Tuesday (April 10) night at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium, winning Favorite CD (No Strings Attached), Favorite Single (“Bye, Bye, Bye”), and Favorite Pop Group. The major music categories were mostly split, however, with a poodle-haired Christina Aguilera snagging Favorite Female Artist, Eminem taking Favorite Male Artist, and Destiny’s Child walking off with Favorite Group of the Year.
