'NSYNC, Jackson 5 Plug Their 'Dancing Machine' Back In

The ‘NSYNC/Jackson 5 machine has been turned on once again. A scheduling conflict that caused the younger fivesome to pull out of their performance of “Dancing Machine” with the reunited legends on September 7 at New York’s Madison Square Garden has been resolved, ‘NSYNC announced Thursday (August 30). ‘NSYNC were originally slated to rehearse their MTV Video Music Awards performance on August 29 and 30 – the same days Jackson had hoped they could rehearse for his “Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, The Solo Years” concert. ‘NSYNC rearranged their schedule to make it work. The group even found time to… Read more »

NSYNC Drops Jackson Tribute For VMA

*NSYNC will not be performing at the all-star salute to Michael Jackson due to scheduling conflicts, according to the event’s producer David Gest. The pop group was originally scheduled to perform with Jackson on September 7, but Gest released a statement today (August 22) in which he explained: “Michael Jackson and *NSYNC will not have time to rehearse the ‘Dancing Machine’ number with the Jacksons in the way Michael planned to present it. Unfortunately, *NSYNC will be rehearsing their MTV Video Music Awards performance on Wednesday and Thursday while Michael will be rehearsing for his shows at the Garden. The… Read more »

'NSYNC Seek To Impress With Skills, Not Sales

When they were making Celebrity, ‘NSYNC weren’t fretting about how to follow up a sales record – they were too busy staking out a new sound to carry them into a future far beyond first-week figures, says Justin Timberlake. And besides, he said, it’s just the economy that’s to blame if the album’s opening week comes shy of the 2.4 million copies No Strings Attached sold last year in its first week on shelves. “People probably don’t think we think about this kind of stuff, but if you really wanna get technical about it, the whole country, the economy, is… Read more »

BT And ‘NSync: Pop Goes The Producer

Former American trance golden boy BT (Brian Transeau) and ‘NSync may seem like odd bedfellows but according to BT, it was all very natural for the two seemingly divergent acts to work together on “Pop,” the first track on ‘NSync’s most recent album, Celebrity (Jive). In fact the love fest was so mutual between the teensters and the Los Angeles based dance producer that BT is now working with Justin Timberlake’s girlfriend, Britney Spears, to help produce her new album – better watch out Justin, BT’s a charmer. If you’ve heard BT’s version of “Pop” you know it sounds a… Read more »

'NSYNC Likely To Outsell Everyone But Themselves

Celebrity sales projected to fall just short of record set by group’s No Strings Attached. “Dirty pop” is turning out to be huge for ‘NSYNC, though maybe not as huge as last year’s model. Four national retail chains said Wednesday (July 25) that based on first-day sales of ‘NSYNC’s new album, Celebrity, projected first-week numbers appeared to be falling just short of those for the group’s No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4 million copies in its first week last March – the highest first-week sales of the SoundScan era. But Celebrity, released Tuesday, does seem to be on course to… Read more »

MusicNet is set to be available through America Online, RealPlayer software and even the planned subscription version of Napster. “People ask, ‘will there be compelling major-label content available through MusicNet?’ ” the… Read more »

'NSYNC Party With Hef, Olsen Twins, Britney At Celebrity Soiree

Maybe it’s a sign of ‘NSYNC’s maturity, the reason they appear to have risen to the top of the teen pop class. Whatever the answer, having both Hugh Hefner (arm-in-arm with six Playboy playmates) and the 15-year-old Olsen twins (Mary-Kate and Ashley, of “Full House” fame) at their album release party Monday night at least proves that their demographic has widened. Those were just a few of the celebrities joining the boys from Orlando, Florida, at the club Moomba on the eve of Celebrity’s arrival in stores, amid almost unreal expectations (not to mention whispers of vulnerability). Industry insiders predict… Read more »

'NSYNC Express Support For Backstreet Boy's Struggle

Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean’s revelations of depression and alcohol abuse shook the pop world at its foundations, and perhaps no one can better understand the pressures of being in a multiplatinum pop group than the members of ‘NSYNC. While J.C. Chasez didn’t claim to fully relate to McLean’s plight, he did offer his condolences. “I really don’t know what to say about that, except for, you know, I hope he gets better,” Chasez said in a telephone press conference Friday (July 13). “It’s kind of sad that he’s got a problem like that, and I wish the guy the best.… Read more »

'NSYNC, Backstreet Boys Represent For Full Force

‘NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys on the same album? No, it’s not a new edition of Now That’s What I Call Music! Both boy bands can be found on Still Standing, the forthcoming album from Full Force, the rappers/producers who worked with both pop juggernauts early in their careers. The follow-up to 1995’s Sugar on Top, scheduled for July 31 release, features a revamped version of ‘NSYNC’s “I Just Wanna Be With You” (with additional lyrics courtesy of Da Brat) and the Backstreet Boys’ “All I Have to Give.” Still Standing also contains seven new songs and a number of… Read more »
