Bono and President George W. U2 and Paul Simon will likely perform their Oscar-nominated songs at the March 23 ceremony, Oscars producer Gil Cates said. “We don’t have any complete confirmations today as to who will perform but it is likely that U2 will perform because their schedule allows for it. Bono closed out a two-hour AIDS awareness rally in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Sunday with a new song called “America’s Prayer.” Addressing more than 2,300 people on World AIDS Day, the singer discussed the AIDS epidemic in Africa and encouraged Americans to help halt the spread of the deadly disease. Dublin’s docklands redevelopers, who angered U2 by tearing down the group’s hallowed old studios, are giving Bono and his colleagues a high-rise penthouse replacement, the two sides announced Tuesday. “The new Dublin is something I’m really excited about,” Bono told a press conference alongside leaders of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority. A U2 album of all-new material could arrive by next summer, according to the band’s guitarist, the Edge. Like the greatest-hits package that preceded it, the upcoming U2: The Best of 1990-2000 will include a limited edition B-sides album. U2 Enraged, Fans Hit By Ticket Scam


U2 fans hoping to see their heroes play in Europe have been stung by a simple ticketing scam. Tickets for a show at the Amsterdam Arena this summer were advertised and sold through website LatestEvents.com, part of a London firm called Total Entertainment Ltd. The £199 fee included tickets, travel and accommodation. However, U2 were never booked to play the Amsterdam Arena. After announcing the “cancellation” of the gig, Total Entertainment subtracted £17.50 from each package sold for their “insurance fee.” The scam has enraged U2.
