A Static Lullaby Bring The Noise To Canada

A Static Lullaby are a California-based hard rock band that are hard to categorize. Sometimes fitting into in the emo or punk category and dabbling with shrill screams and metal guitars, the group’s influences are equally based in hardcore and emotional melodic music, teetering o n the brink of brutality while acknowledging their sensitive side. We’re not even going to try to pigeon-hole them – you’ll have to go see them for yourselves. And luckily, if you live between London, Ontario and Vancouver, BC, you’ll have your chance over the next couple of weeks. ASL will appeal to fans of… Read more »

Marred by fiery riots a year ago, the Leeds leg of Britain’s Carling Weekend made a sold-out, subdued and sunny return this weekend. Metallica, Linkin Park, Staind, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, AFI, the Polyphonic Spree, Hot Hot Heat, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, the Libertines, Blink-182, the Cooper Temple Clause, Death in Vegas, the Streets and many others played the open-air arena and three tents at the festival’s new site, Bramham Park. Courtney Love, Universal Settle Suit

Grunge singer-turned-actress Courtney Love and Vivendi Universal Music Group, the world’s largest record conglomerate, announced settlement Monday of their lawsuits against each other with a deal that allows the music firm to release songs by her late husband’s band Nirvana. Universal sued Love in 2000 over five allegedly undelivered albums. She filed a countersuit last year in Los Angeles County Superior Court that sought to break her contract with Vivendi Universal and expose what she called unfair treatment of artists. Love – the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994 – claimed Universal made about $40… Read more »

Thursday, International Noise Conspiracy Rock for Charity

The second annual “Plea for Peace: Take Action” tour, which benefits National Hopeline Network 1-800-SUICIDE, features different lineups on different legs of the trek. The D.C. show is headlined by Thursday, which is apt, since the New Jersey quintet derives its anguished post-hardcore sound – which one wag has dubbed “screamo” – from such D.C. trailblazers as Rites of Spring. If anything, Thursday’s “Full Collapse” is even more morbidly sensitive than the work of its inspirations. “I think it’s going to rain, rain down/ Here in this collapsed lung of a borough,” muses singer Geoff Rickly midway through “Paris in… Read more »

Friction from a flat tire caused a bus with the Eminem-headlined Anger Management Tour to catch fire on a highway Sunday, fire officials said. Pittsfield Township Fire Sgt. The bus – apparently reserved for Eminem’s managers – was on its way to meet the tour at a scheduled performance, he said. The Anger… Read more »

Light Me, Britney, One More Time

Apparently the pop princess came pretty darn close to burning down-well, not the house-but a New York City apartment building a few days ago. The tidbit comes courtesy of the latest edition of Lynne’s Corner, a diary written by Spears’ mom that appears on the singer’s Website, BritneySpears.com. According to Ma Spears’ weekly update, published Wednesday, Britney nearly torched the apartment she was staying in by leaving a candle burning while she and a pal went out. Spears was in town for a four-day vacation with one of her friends (identified only as “Jenny” on the Website). The two spent… Read more »
