All Time Low – The Gunz Show – Interview with Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low

In his in-depth interview on The Gunz Show, All Time Low frontman Alex Gaskarth discussed the band’s frustration with how long they had to sit on their last album, Dirty Work, which was released through Interscope Records in the spring of 2011. It was a tough thing. I don’t want to badmouth anyone over there – for what they did they were really rad. It was a lot of bad timing, in a lot of ways. It’s kind of happening with all major labels at the moment. It was just one of those textbook situations where we signed, we had… Read more »

Fall Out Boy – The Gunz Show – Interview with Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy (Part 2)

Part 2 of my in-studio interview with Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy, The Damned Things, With Knives. Listen to part one here. Trohman discussed his new project, With Knives; “Josh [Newton] had been working on what we was actually calling With Knives for a while – and he was just recording these really cool instrumental tracks, really cool 90’s noise rock type stuff. And I loved it. I told him, “That stuff is awesome, what’re you going to do with it?” A couple days after I told him that, he said “…do you wanna do the band with me?”… Read more »

Live Nation could lose money on Madonna deal

If Madonna leaves Warner Bros. for an all-encompassing $120 million deal with Live Nation — as the Wall Street Journal reported this week — the concert promoter will struggle to make money on the deal, according to a Billboard analysis of the numbers. The 10-year deal reportedly includes: $50 million in cash and stock for the right to promote Madonna’s concert tours; a signing bonus of $17.5 million; and advances totaling $50 million-$60 million for three albums. The deal is virtually unprecedented, likely driven by touring potential, but sources say it doesn’t obligate her to tour. Last year, Madonna was… Read more »

No sophomore jitters for songwriter Tunstall

KT Tunstall’s apparently tireless capacity for work makes even her laugh. “I feel like a camel,” the Scottish singer-songwriter says with a giggle. “Because I had 10 years of nothing, it does give me an enormous capacity for embracing what’s going on and remembering all that time when I was really wishing things would happen.” That’s why, after two straight years of touring and promotion behind her multiplatinum debut, “Eye to the Telescope” — first released in the United Kingdom at the end of 2004, although its U.S. release was not until February 2006 — Tunstall is, eagerly, right back… Read more »

Weezer Isn't Done Yet; Online Post Promises Sixth Album

Last time we heard from Weezer, frontman Rivers Cuomo said they were “done.” Cooked. Put on ice … again. All of a sudden, though, it seems like things have ramped back up for the band that is more on-again/off-again than a Brittany Murphy engagement. Months after a mysterious Web site with the vague name AlbumSix.com began redirecting traffic to Weezer’s homepage, a note was posted on both sites on Monday announcing that the group was not only back together, but about to wrap up work on a yet-untitled sixth album. A post titled “Yams, clams, flans, plans, shams, crans and glands”… Read more »

Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight: Nu-Metallers Grow Up

For all the talk about Linkin Park killing off nü metal on the upcoming Minutes to Midnight, it’s rather puzzling that the first sound you hear on the album is the crackle of a needle hitting a record. After all, one of the, uh, tenets of the genre was the head-bopping DJ – think guys like LP’s Joe Hahn or Limp Bizkit’s Lethal – the dude responsible for, literally, putting the needle on the record (and for appearing out of place in all the press photos). So was co-frontman Chester Bennington kidding when he told MTV News back in September… Read more »
