Smashing Pumpkins 'Greatest Hits' Coming This Fall


In the Fall of 2001, Virgin Records will release the long awaited Smashing Pumpkins “Greatest Hits” album. The tracks for the compilation are currently being selected by the band. To coincide with this release, Virgin will also release a two-CD package (limited edition) that will include the “Greatest Hits” disc as well as “Judas O Riley.” “Judas O Riley” is the follow-up to “Pisces Iscariot,” the 1994 b-sides release by the Pumpkins, and will include b-sides and rarities culled from the band’s sessions, which produced “Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,” “Adore,” and “MACHINA/the machines of God.” The artwork for… Read more »

Crows Set Fall Tour


The Counting Crows will road test material from their upcoming record when they head out on a thirty-four-date tour later this month. The road trip kicks off on August 18th in Englewood, Colorado and wraps up in Lawrence, Kansas on November 7th. Meanwhile, the Crows will continue working on their follow-up to 1999’s This Desert Life, due out next spring. Eagle-Eye Cherry is preparing for a fall club tour to major U.S. cities. Incubus To Tour In Fall


Incubus will release their fourth album, Morning View, on October 23rd. Papa Roach DVD Due In Fall


Papa Roach will release a DVD this fall. The work is intended to serve as a companion piece to their break-out, triple platinum album Infest. The DVD will be a rock-umentary of sorts chronicling the past two years surrounding P-Roach’s success. It will include behind-the-scenes footage, TV appearances and the “Last Resort,” “Broken Home” and “Between Angels and Insects” videos. Sears And Brian McKnight Announce Partnership For Fall Tour


Brian McKnight has been tapped to join the Sears, Roebuck and Co. family for a nationwide tour that coincides with the release of McKnight’s latest Motown project, “superhero,” streeting Aug. 28. Online Music Blamed For Falling Sales


The music industry has blamed free online music and the US economic slowdown for a fall in sales. In the US, the world’s largest market, singles and cassette sales fell by 38% and 46%, which the record companies blamed on free download services applied by Napstar, MP3.com and other online music services. BMG-EMI Merger Falls Apart


Bertelsmann’s planned merger with British music giant EMI is expected to be scrapped shortly, highly placed sources close to the action reported yesterday. Official word of the nixing of a BMG-EMI joint entity will likely come from the congloms in the next couple of weeks. Surprisingly, the companies dropped plans for a merger before a finalized proposition was even formally presented to the EU regulatory board for approval.
