Do you live in San Francisco? If not, you might wanna think about moving. Forget about high rent prices, because the tenth anniversary of Outside Lands is making it all worth it.
Varying backgrounds, musical influences, and openness to mixing genres is what makes Diamond Youth really stand out, and the risks they take on their newest EP Shake pay off.
An Every Time I Die album always packs a punch (or makes you want to punch someone!) and the band’s latest release Ex Lives is no different.
The history of rock is full of “Eureka!” flashes of brilliance. Chuck Berry had the idea to fuse country with the blues. Bob Dylan took folk music electric. Nikki Sixx realized that the line “I’d say we’ve kicked some ass” could rhyme with “I’d say we’re still kickin’ ass.” For the Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner, the big light bulb idea came in 2005: Get huge by thinking small. Write scrappy little Brit-punk tunes about the humdrum town you’re stuck in, the pissy little pubs you can’t get into, the local girls who aren’t desperate enough to dance with you. Give… Read more »
Taking Back Sunday gave its fourth LP a fitting title: New Again. For frontman Adam Lazarra, the addition of guitarist Matt Fazzi last spring has given the five-piece a wildly fresh perspective. Bassist Matt Rubano agrees that the band is embracing a new genre with its new release. “The idea that we’ve really embraced on this record is that it’s up to us to decide what Taking Back Sunday sounds like,” bassist Matt Rubano said. “We always want to be redefining what that means, and there’s stuff on this record I think in the past we would have stayed away… Read more »
The countdown is on. The All-American Rejects are scheduled to release their eagerly awaited third album When the World Comes Down, on November 18th on DGC/Interscope/Doghouse. When the World Comes Down is The All-American Rejects’ first project with veteran producer Eric Valentine, known for his work with multi-platinum artists Maroon 5, Smash Mouth, Good Charlotte, Queens Of the Stone Age, and more. “Gives You Hell” has been chosen as the first single, and fans can now stream it for free on Imeem. “It’s what we were put on… Read more »
It’s understandable that Adam Levine would admit to “going a little mad” as Maroon 5 embarked on the follow-up to their multiplatinum, Grammy-winning Songs About Jane. “It’s one thing making a record, but it’s another thing making a record when you’ve had all this success and there’s all this pressure, and you say you don’t feel it and pretend you don’t, and then one day you wake up and it knocks you in your face,” the singer said. Levine responded to the pressure by, well, partying. “I worked my ass off for four years, and I thought, ‘I’m going to… Read more »
Modern-rock promotion finds itself at a crossroads as a growing number of terrestrial radio broadcasters tune out the ratings-challenged format. Record companies are attempting to adapt to modern rock’s recent marginalization on the airwaves in major markets like Philadelphia, Miami, New York and Washington, D.C. by emphasizing other options for building buzz. In lieu of airplay, touring, blogs, ringtones, downloads, Internet and satellite radio, videogame tie-ins, alliances with brand marketers, film and TV exposure, sponsorships and placements in commercials all are growing in value. The marketing strategies for a number of big-name rock artists with current or upcoming releases show… Read more »
Death Cab for Cutie and “The O.C.” have had a symbiotic relationship almost since the teen beach drama began in August, 2003. Protagonist Seth Cohen (actor Adam Brody) named-dropped the Washington state indie-rockers liberally and sported posters of the group on his wall, giving them mainstream exposure they probably never expected. In turn, Seth, his refined taste, and the show itself have earned a stellar reputation in music-geek circles. Death Cab have had their music featured in key scenes before, but the group will finally perform on “The O.C.” on April 20. The group will play two songs from its… Read more »
Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. said it agreed to an exclusive marketing and promotional alliance with Interscope Geffen A&M Records and its chairman, Jimmy Iovine. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The New York subscription-based satellite-radio broadcaster said Monday that Iovine will be a creative adviser and consultant in the development of Sirius programming. Interscope will offer marketing and promotional opportunities with its artists, including U2, Eminem, No Doubt, Sheryl Crow, 50 Cent and Queens of the Stone Age. Last year, Iovine helped broker a deal for Eminem to co-produce a hip-hop channel on Sirius called Shade 45. The New… Read more »
