Think about if someone approached you in a record store asking for something that blends the unique vocal sound of Hit the Lights, the emo power of The Early November and the homegrown pop-punk sound that The Starting Line have perfected. If that person were savvy enough they would hand you a copy of Think Fast from Just Left, the band’s second album and debut for Victory imprint Standby Records.
The Live Nation Ticketmaster merger was brought before the Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights yesterday, with the Chicago music scene at the epicenter of testimony both for and against the merger. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Windy City was used as an example of how the merger wouldn’t violate antitrust laws, with Live Nation chief executive Michael Rapino citing that his company only put on 16 percent of the concerts in Chicago, compared to the 29 percent staged by Chicago-based concert company Jam Productions. However, Jam’s Jerry Mickelson, testifying against the merger, told the subcommittee that… Read more »
Kelly Osbourne will make her West End debut in “Chicago.” Osbourne, 22, will join the cast at London’s Cambridge Theater, playing the role of prison matron Mama Morton during a seven-week run starting Sept. 10, the theater said Monday. She found fame on the reality show “The Osbournes” alongside her parents, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, and her brother, Jack. She has recorded several albums, and was host of the British TV show “Project Catwalk.” Meanwhile, Ozzy Osbourne was doing well after undergoing a “minor outpatient procedure” late Saturday at Rose Medical Center in Denver, his representatives said. Los Angeles – Lollapalooza – a marquee touring festival of the 1990s that fell on commercial hard times last year – is returning this year in drastically scaled-down form. Lollapalooza ’05 will run July 23-24 in Chicago’s Grant Park. The band lineup will not be announced until the third week in April. The festival Web site (www.lollapalooza.com) will go live Friday. Lollapalooza began life in 1991 as a major vehicle for the exposure of left-field rock talent. A highly successful summer touring proposition in the early ’90s, it took a five-year hiatus from 1998-2002, as other treks like the Vans… Read more »
Chicago – Musicians in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra approved a three-year labor contract that provides a raise after a year but grants concessions on benefits, officials said. The contract, approved shortly before a performance began Saturday night, freezes the musicians’ base salary at $104,000 for the first year but grants increments every six months thereafter, topping out at $114,400, company and union officials said in a joint statement. The Chicago Federation of Musicians and the symphony association’s board of trustees approved the agreement. The last contract had been scheduled to end Sept. 12 but was extended three times. The symphony… Read more »
“You may know this song,” Evanescence singer Amy Lee uttered demurely nine songs into the group’s headlining set Tuesday night at the Congress Theatre. “It’s the song that got us here.” Understatement of the year. Without “Bring Me to Life,” the ubiquitous rap-rock confection featured on Fallen, the Little Rock, Arkansas, troupe would be far more concerned finding people who can pronounce “Evanescence” than finding wall space for their double-platinum album. Now, only five months after the release of Fallen, Evanescence are headlining the Nintendo Fusion Tour, a 20-date excursion that has the band performing after Cold, the group that’s… Read more »
Fred Durst must have been having a really bad day when the Summer Sanitarium tour stopped outside Chicago Saturday. The Chicago Sun-Times describes Durst as having a tantrum on stage and ending Limp Bizkit’s set after just 20 minutes. The report says heckling fans throwing garbage gave Durst a rough reception. At first, Durst encouraged the abuse, then offered to fight anyone within earshot while yelling curses and sexual putdowns. According to the report, “Had the villain in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ been a vile little boob like Durst rather than a snarly old lady in greenface, the movie’s ‘I’m… Read more »
