It’s time to buy, mix, and burn, according to Apple Computer Inc. The Silicon Valley company that angered the recording industry with its “Rip. Mix. Burn” ad campaign was expected to launch an online music service Monday that promises to make it easier for consumers to pay for music downloaded from the Internet. The announcement is the result of an intense effort by Apple CEO Steve Jobs to court music industry executives, who have been leery of digital music downloads, and have aggressively filed lawsuits and pushed for new laws to stem the illegal copying and distribution of copyright works.… Read more »
Arista recording artist Wakefield hit the road opening for All-American Rejects starting May 4th in Portland, Oregon. Two days later on May 6th, Wakefield’s debut album, American Made, will officially arrive in stores, it was announced today by Antonio “L.A.” Reid, President and CEO, Arista Records. Nickelback’s former management company, Amar Management, filed a breach of contract suit against the band in the Supreme Court of British Columbia in Canada. The suit, filed on January 25, contends that Nickelback wrongfully terminated the contract and has failed to pay the management company commissions, disbursements, and various other fees as a result of services rendered. The band allegedly signed a contract with Amar Management in 1996 and worked with the company through two independent albums and its first Roadrunner Records release, The State. Star 98.7’s Not So Silent Night certainly won’t be remembered as the most exciting local holiday concert this year, especially considering the high ticket price and modest artist lineup, though attendees were treated to a sneak of Alanis Morissette’s upcoming third U.S. studio album. The commercial decline of headliner Garbage gave the sold-out event an anticlimactic air.
