The annual three-ring circus that is Ozzfest has become a perennial summer celebration of all things loud and abrasive over the last decade – and this summer’s lineup will not disappoint. It wasn’t a very good night for openers Killswitch Engage, as they announced right before their set that their singer had “blown his voice” and Unearth’s frontman (who already sang that night) would be filling in. Fortunately, no angry rioting ensued, not even when they cut their set short and promised to bring a better show through town next time. Los Angeles – Though the new outing that Vans Warped tour founder Kevin Lyman is launching this February is called Taste of Chaos, the event is moving forward like a well-oiled machine. “To get a second year on this project, we have to have at least 3,000 people per market,” Lyman says. “I think we will do more.” Taste of Chaos will take place at indoor venues and feature such hard rock acts as the Used, My Chemical Romance, Killswitch Engage and Senses Fail. Dimebag Darrell, guitarist for Pantera and Damageplan, was one of at least four people fatally wounded during a bizarre shooting at a concert in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday night. According to Columbus NBC affiliate NBC4, Dimebag – real name Darrell Abbott – was among the fatalities resulting from the incident, which occurred during a Damageplan performance at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus. Authorities did not release the names of any of the other fatalities to NBC4. Two of the biggest slasher-film icons of the ’80s are finally set to meet, as the nightmare pairing of “Freddy Vs. Jason” hits U.S. theaters Aug. 15. Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland will star in the film, but the soundtrack to the flick, due Aug. 5 via Roadrunner, will be chock full of hard-edged rock. The disc is highlighted by an unreleased track from Slipknot and contributions from Sepultura, Chimaira, Stone Sour and Type O Negative.
