Paul McCartney will soon have a new spouse to write silly love songs for. The 59-year-old former Beatle proposed to his girlfriend, Heather Mills, on Monday during a trip to Britain’s Lake District, his publicist said. The two are planning to marry sometime next year. He proposed by dropping to one knee and offering Mills an Indian sapphire ring he bought in Jaipur, India, during a vacation in January, his publicist said. McCartney’s first wife and fellow musician, Linda, died of breast cancer in 1998. “Paul and Heather thank their relatives and friends for the support that they’ve shown since… Read more »
While living legends Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton earned their 21st gold certifications this month, younger acts, including Staind, Linkin Park, and Nelly Furtado, picked up their first platinum and multi-platinum albums, according to the RIAA’s June certifications list. (Albums are often certified gold, platinum, and multi-platinum simultaneously.) Clapton’s new gold plaque is for Reptile. Though McCartney and Clapton are clearly running out of wall space to hang the plaques, Staind, Linkin… Read more »

Paul McCartney’s Wingspan project looks to be as much a tribute to his late wife, Linda, as it is to his former band Wings. The Wingspan double-album compilation hits stores Tuesday, and a two-hour special of the same name will air Friday on ABC. “Basically, it’s the story of me and Linda struggling to put a band together and raise a family at the same time,” McCartney told VH1’s Rebecca Rankin of the TV documentary. “The original idea came from Linda putting together a surprise video for our anniversary,” McCartney said. “It was done by Allaster [Donald, McCartney’s son-in-law]. While McCartney wants people to hear the track, which he has described as a “happening,” he recommends fans keep their expectations in check. “People are thinking there’s another ‘Strawberry Fields’ somewhere [and] you know, this is more plinky-plonky,” McCartney told the Times U.K.. “I mean, I like it, but it’s not to everyone’s taste.” The song was apparently not for George Harrison’s taste either, since the guitarist blocked “Carnival” from appearing on the Fab… Read more »
