Annie Lennox’s “Into the West,” from Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, won Best Original Song at the 2004 Golden Globe Awards last night in Los Angeles. The song, which Lennox co-wrote with Howard Shore and Fran Walsh, bested Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s “The Heart of Every Girl” (fromMona Lisa Smile), Pearl Jam’s “Man of the Hour” (from Big Fish), Bono, Gavin Friday and Maurice Seezer’s “Time Enough for Tears” (from In America) and Sting’s “You Will Be My Ain True Love” (performed by Alison Krauss for Cold Mountain). Recent Pure Noise Records signees Ben Quad are gearing up to release their 5-track EP Ephemera on October 25. On October 7, the band revealed the title track of their forthcoming record, which was preceded by “You’ll Get Nothing And Like It” and “Your Face As An Effigy.” The band shares that “Ephemera” is the “the boiling point of the record. Albany-based punk rockers Prince Daddy & The Hyena just announced an expansive headlining tour across the U.S. beginning in October. The tour kicks off on Oct. 9 at Denver’s Oriental Theater and wraps up on October 28 at Memphis’ Growlers.
