New Orleans-based eclectic/innovative rock quartet MUTEMATH has confirmed an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this Thursday Jan. 15, 2009. The Grammy-nominated band will perform a brand new song entitled, “Spotlight,” from the chart-topping Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, TWILIGHT, based on the Stephanie Meyers book which has become an international phenomenon. Confirming news that Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson let slip recently on “The Carson Daly Show,” Green Day is in the studio with veteran producer Butch Vig working on the follow-up to 2004’s “American Idiot.” In a video posted over the weekend on YouTube, the band is seen in the control room as the camera pans over to Vig, who smiles and extends his middle finger. My Chemical Romance’s tour in support of its 2006 album “The Black Parade” forms the basis of “The Black Parade Is Dead!,” a CD/DVD package due June 24. The project was filmed October 7, 2007, at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes, and October 24, 2007, at the tiny Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey. A woman who stalked Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison for using her work computer at Sandia National Laboratories to track and harass him and his wife. Devon Townsend has 60 days to surrender to a minimum-security prison in Phoenix, where she is expected to receive mental health care. She had pleaded guilty to stalking and other counts. Townsend, who worked in Sandia’s technology and manufacturing group, used lab computers to illegally access private information about Bennington and his wife, Talinda, in 2006. Nobody would ever confuse R.E.M. for Metallica, but the guitars have definitely been turned up for the Georgia group’s 14th studio album, “Accelerate.” The follow-up to 2004’s “Around the Sun” is due in stores April 1 via Warner Bros. Nearly all the material was tested out during a summer run in Dublin, although manager Bertis Downs said a few of those songs didn’t make the cut, and a couple of album tunes were held back from live airings. Linda Stein, the onetime co-manager of Ramones, was found dead October 30 in her Upper East Side apartment in Manhattan. Stein, 62, who was once married to famous Sire Records head/Warner Bros. vice-president Seymour Stein, was found dead in her kitchen. In recent times, Stein was well-known in show business circles as a realtor for high-profile and celebrity clients, including Billy Joel, Calvin Klein, and Bruce Willis. Stein died from blunt-force trauma to the head. Police are treating the death as murder, and are continuing investigations. They say there were no signs of forced entry to her Fifth Avenue apartment.

If Madonna leaves Warner Bros. for an all-encompassing $120 million deal with Live Nation — as the Wall Street Journal reported this week — the concert promoter will struggle to make money on the deal, according to a Billboard analysis of the numbers. The 10-year deal reportedly includes: $50 million in cash and stock for the right to promote Madonna’s concert tours; a signing bonus of $17.5 million; and advances totaling $50 million-$60 million for three albums.
