Universal teams with TuneCore to discover talent


Universal Music Group’s distribution arm is teaming up with digital track distributor TuneCore, a move it says will give it a leg up in signing up-and-coming artists without a recording deal yet. TuneCore, which allows musicians to upload digital songs for distribution on iTunes and Amazon.com for a flat annual fee, has become one of several ways for unsigned acts to sell songs before getting deals with record labels. Taking Back Sunday explores 'New' territory

Metallica to be two-bassist band at Hall of Fame


DETROIT –  It seems that Metallica will be a two-bassist band at Saturday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland. A day after former bassist Jason Newsted told Billboard.com that his replacement, Robert Trujillo would not take part in the performance part of the induction, a spokesman for the group’s Warner Bros. label clarified that “Jason and Robert will both be playing Metallica’s induction songs.” He did not indicate what the songs would be or if Newsted and Trujillo would be on stage together or separately. Punk's Rancid to release first album in six years


Punk band  Rancid will release its first album in six years on June 2, two days before it begins a North American tour with  Rise Against  in Vancouver, B.C. “Let the Dominoes Fall” (Hellcat/Epitaph), the band’s seventh album, was recorded at  George Lucas‘  Skywalker Sound Studio  in  San Francisco, with production by Epitaph founder and  Bad Religion  guitarist  Brett Gurewitz.
