Softcult return on this beautiful December morning to gift fans with a brand new song, “Heaven.” A classically shoegaze-drenched tune, the duo comprised of twins Mercedes and Phoenix Arn-Horn add exciting elements of grunge rock and alternative indie into parts of the effort. Carried by gloomy verses and restrained vocals, the instrumentation explodes into something more cacophonous in the chorus. The Nashville-based punk rock label, Pure Noise Records has announced the second installment of their Dead Formats compilation albums. Dead Formats Vol. 2 will see many bands from the Pure Noise Records roster covering classic songs across the punk and rock genres. The album will drop on September 15th and holds an impressive fifteen tracks in total. So far, three tracks have dropped. Given the huge success of 2002’s Sticks and Stones, the members of New Found Glory aren’t expecting to top their previous high mark with Catalyst, which drops Tuesday. This year is a milestone for the Vans Warped Tour, as the hard rocking fest enters its tenth year of carrying the post-punk banner. Footage of some of last year’s touring bands – including the Used, the Ataris, Sum 41, Glassjaw, Pennywise, Rancid, Thrice and Less Than Jake – will be included on Vans Warped Tour ’03, a DVD due on June 22nd. Twelve hours, four stages and more than 40 bands marked the end of the three-day Skate and Surf Festival on Sunday. Held at the Asbury Park Convention Hall, the second installment of the now annual event featured performances from Bouncing Souls, Face to Face and the Descendents, among many others.
