Panic! At The Disco Sheds Glam Image, Teenage Angst

Given the radical image changes that Panic! At The Disco has undergone in the past year, it’s hard not to read the lyrics to its new album’s opening song as a pre-emptive strike against critics. “Oh, how it’s been so long/we’re so sorry we’ve been gone/we were busy writing songs/for you,” bassist Jon Walker sings, by way of apology for the two-and-a-half-year lag between 2005’s “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out” and the new “Pretty. INXS Revealed As The Mystery Band On Rock Reality Show

Seven years after singer Michael Hutchence’s death, INXS have announced that they will find their new lead singer through a new Mark Burnett reality show, Rock Star. Replacing singers is tricky business. Ian Astbury joined The Doors after an actual history in rock with The Cult, but Jim Morrison he ain’t. Oh, and what about Creedence Clearwater Revisited? Yeah, without John Fogerty’s voice, they’re just a drummer and a bassist who used to be in a good band. I know I don’t ever want to hear Scott Weiland try to be Axl Rose, but seeing Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and… Read more »

From jeans to suits, the red carpet at the 20th Annual MTV Video Music Awards was a fashionista’s dream – or nightmare. Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons showed up Thursday night in a pink suit, as did Dre of Outkast. Rapper 50 Cent wore a gray suit accessorized with a diamond necklace – and actress Vivica A. Fox, in a flesh-baring short gray dress. They were the subtle ones. Christina Aguilera’s dress was covered with pink feathers, while Mya wore short, tight black patent leather and lace. Singer Tweet had on black and white over-the-knee leather boots and a dress made… Read more »

Gay Musicians Want to Break Country Music Barrier

America’s country music scene isn’t exactly known for its gay artists, but a colorful pack of wanna-be stars pulled out their best rustic twangs and wailing guitars on Thursday to try to change all that. Scores of country music hopefuls auditioned in New York for what is being billed as a television show to pick an openly gay country music star from about 50 contestants. The musicians – most of whom wore jeans and spit-polished boots – wailed through Willie Nelson songs, crooned like Lyle Lovett and belted out ballads like Garth Brooks. Livening up the day was The Dixie… Read more »
